Hi,
I am trying to create a custom label for an Avery Label (J5614), it is a 4x6 page, with 40, 14mm circles on it.

It looks ok in the preview when i create it, but when i select it to use it, it looks nothing like what i have created, the label appears to be about 4cm in size and not the 1.4 that i want. I have the right paper selected and i created the lable saying that the page was 4''x6'' (10x15cm), what am i doing wrong?

I tried to attach some files, but dont think that worked. I am happy to email them to anyone that can offer me some asstance with this please.

Hi melmason,

When you said in your first message that "It looks ok in the preview when i create it", I assumed that you meant that it looks OK in the Custom Paper Wizard preview. After you opened the custom label project on the workspace, then created the label, did you try selecting Print Preview in the PrintMaster File menu? And, if so, did the project look like it would print correctly?

If what you see in File | Print Preview does not look correct, it might be very helpful if you could do a screen capture of that Print Preview then post that image back here.

Hi Brandy redux,

You did assume correctly.....

The wizard preview looks fine it is the print preview doesn't look right at all.

I unfortunitly am at work and the screen dump of the print preview is at home and I can't send it at this stage. I'll have to upload it tonight for you.

I created a custom stock that has 40 little labels on a 4"x6" sheet and it printed perfectly.

You are absolutely sure that you have your printer selected with a custom paper of 4" wide and 6" high? (Height must be larger than width for inputting paper dimensions.)

If yes, then possibly your printer drivers are not the latest version which is required by your PrintMaster program. Download and install the latest drivers from your printer's manufacturer's website.

Yes I am certain that my paper is set to 4x6 - it is the most common paper size that I use - that is why it set as my default paper size. I have an epson r350 and the drivers are current.

Hi melmason,

I was also able to create a custom stock with 40 little labels on a 4"x6" sheet. And, I was able to print that project on an Epson printer that looks enough like your Epson R350 to be its twin (my printer is an Epson R340).

My current thought is that you might not have correctly selected the custom label that you created in Custom Paper Wizard. So, it definitely couldn't hurt to open the label project on the workspace, select Choose Label Stock in the Edit menu, make sure that your custom label is selected, then make sure that the preview that is displayed on the right side of the 'Select a Label Stock' window looks exactly like the Attachment (1) image in your original message at the top of this thread.

Ok thanks Brandy redux and lindarobin for your help
i'll be be sure to give all that a try. It is quite frustrating to get things to work sometimes.

it would be nice if we could just share templates then if both of you got it to work. I really wish i could figure out where I was going wrong.

Ok - update time

For some very strange reason, I changed the printmaster unit options to imperial away from my native metric and converted all my dimentions to suit and - low and behold, it bloody worked.
Not really sure why this had an impact on it working, but none the less I had to try something after try all the other suggestions. I have since changed my units back to metic and things are still working fine.

I'm glad you now have your labels the way you want them to be. From your print preview, it very much looks like your printer paper size was set to 4 cm by 6 cm. That is why your 1.4 cm labels only fit 2 across. I measured the paper width and label width displayed on the screenshot and calculated the ratio, et voila, it is the same ratio as 4:1.4. Probably not a coincidence.

No I can very much assure you that my printer paper size was not set to 4x6cm
95% of all of my work that I do is done on 4x6in (10x15cm) paper (it is a standard size), and i have never had a problem before now using numerous different packages. This is the first time I have had an issue with printmaster 17.
I think that there may be an issue with the label wizard itself in version 17. I tried making other labels on A4 size paper using metric measurement and it still had issues. Reverted back to inches and all good.

I duplicated the problem!! I set the units to metric and created a new custom label for 10cm x 15cm paper and got the same wacky print preview.

So that proves that PrintMaster 17 cannot work in metric, at least not the first time. So starting everything with inches works. Then after getting it to work, switching to metric seems fine.

Thank you for identifying this glitch.
