Hi friends! Could someone please help me with a couple of questions?
In the game YACHT (Hoyle 2009) what is that sound / voice saying when you roll the dice (something like "yakkadoo")? And why does it not sound on every roll of the dice. I know this sounds really stupid, but I am going crazy trying to figure it out....

Thank you!!!!

Hi Ironbo,

If you have Character Speech turned ON, the sound/voice is obviously one of the other players speaking. And, since it does not sound on every roll of the dice, my guess would be that the program is set up for the player to say something like "yakkadoo" only when a specific combination of dice is rolled.

Hi Ironbo,

Since the sound happens occasionally when you or another character roll the dice, that sound was most likely intentionally written into the program. There are only two sound options in the program - Sound Effects and Character Speech. However, since I always have the sound turned OFF on my computer, I never hear that sound.

Your only option would be to turn OFF the Sound Effects in Options | Environment, then play the game to see if you still hear the sound. If you don't hear the sound, you'll know for sure that it is a Sound Effect. But, if you still hear the sound, that would indicate that one of the characters is probably making that sound. The next step would be to turn the Sound Effects back ON and turn the Character Speech OFF, then play the game to see if you still hear the sound. If you don't hear the sound, you'll know for sure that it was being made by one of the characters.

But, if you still hear the sound, that *might* mean that you have discovered a bug in the program. However, many Hoyle programs have a few sounds which are separate from both the Sound Effects and Character Speech. So, if you were to turn OFF both Sound Effects and Character Speech, and you still hear the sound, that might mean that that sound was intentionally written into the program as a separate sound.

Please do post back here and let me know if you ever figure out what is making the sound. Then, I'll turn ON the sound for my computer to see if I hear it as well.

When I turn off the sound effects, the sound goes away. Any clue on what the sound is for?? It happens randomly when the dice are rolled (even when the characters roll the dice too). Thanks Brandy!!

Nope, Sorry, Ironbo,

Only the people who developed Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 will know what the sound is for. And, since Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games is now up to version 2010 (scheduled to be released September 2), the people who developed Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 can't be asked what the sound is for - because they have moved on to other projects.

Hi again Ironbo,

When I turned the sound on for both my Desktop computer and my Laptop computer - which both have Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2009 installed - I believe I heard the sound that you were asking about. However, I don't hear that sound randomly. Instead, I hear that sound the first time any player throws the dice. And, I never hear that sound any other time.

So, is that the sound you were asking about?

Hi Barbara,

First off, I should tell you that I have deleted the email address you posted with your message. It is never a good idea to post a private email address on a public forum - because spammers collect email addresses that are posted on public forums.

As to your problem with the sound when the players roll the dice, that sound is built into the program as part of the Sound Effects. So, there is only way to get rid of that sound - Turn OFF the Sound Effects in the program.

To Turn OFF the Sound Effects, click on 'Options', then select 'Environment' when the menu pops up. When the Environment window opens, click in the box next to 'Sound Effects' to remove the checkmark from the box. Then, click on 'Apply' and click on 'OK'.
