I see that there haven't been any new posts here in a long time. But I also see that moderator 'Brandy' is still around.

I have Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008 installed on 64-bit Windows 7.

I tried copying some old Facemaker face files into

Program Files (x86)\Encore\Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008\FaceCreator

After doing that I noticed a message when the mouse pointer is on the FaceCreator face at program startup:

Your computer has one or more older, non-talking Face Creator faces that are not included in this list. See Help on talking Face
Creator for more information.

I don't find more info anywhere.

I also tried copying the files into

Program Files\Encore\FaceCreator

and into

Program Files\WON\FaceMaker

but none of them makes the faces show up.

Hi Jeff,

As can be seen in this pinned item,

http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=35490

for a 64-bit version of Windows 7, the Hoyle FaceCreator folder must be copied into this folder

C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Roaming

Interestingly, The game did that on its own, including the old FaceMaker files I put into the FaceCreator folder under Program Files (x86)\Encore\Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008. However, it didn't work. I tried putting everything in a folder named "FaceCreator" (as opposed to "Hoyle FaceCreator"), but it didn't work either.

Hi Jeff,

When I re-read your original post, I noted that you said, "I tried copying some old Facemaker face files."

As is noted in the 'How to back up your Personal Settings' pinned item that I referenced before

http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=35490

the entire folder, including all of the files, must be backed up. So, if you did not copy all of the files from the old folder, that might be what is causing your problem.

And, since the Encore Hoyle Products expect the Face Creator files to be in a folder titled "Hoyle FaceCreator," you must place the face files from the old version in a folder titled '"Hoyle FaceCreator' - so that the following path is achieved

C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Roaming \Hoyle FaceCreator

And, of course, when you copy the files to the correct folder, you must keep in mind that those files might overwrite files that already exist in that folder. So, it is sometimes actually easier to simply delete the existing files in the Hoyle Face Creator folder then copy only the files from the older Encore Hoyle version.

As to where you said this:

"The game did that on its own, including the old FaceMaker files I put into the FaceCreator folder under Program Files (x86)\Encore\Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008."

If you are saying that Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008 put the old Facemaker files into the C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Roaming Hoyle FaceCreator, those files should be available for use in Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008. However, I suspect that what Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008 actually did was create entirely new Facemaker files. That is because the only time that any Encore Hoyle product can incorporate facemaker files from an earlier version of the same product is when those files already exist in the path that exists in the folder which is mentioned in the 'How to back up your Personal Settings' pinned item for the Operating System which is being used.

So, for a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Vista, that would be this folder

C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Roaming \Hoyle FaceCreator

For WinXP, that would be this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name}\Application Data\Hoyle FaceCreator

And, for a Mac, that would be this folder

{your user name}\Library\Application Support\Hoyle FaceCreator

However, I noticed that you didn't mention exactly which older Hoyle product you were using when you originally created the files. And, since you mentioned that you tried copying the files to this folder

Program Files\WON\FaceMaker

that tells me that the facemaker files you are trying to use might have been created with one of the older Hoyle products which were originally released by Sierra - and which were often kept in the WON folder. If that is truly the case, you will very likely have to manually re-create those facemaker files - because the backup method for the newer Encore Hoyle products does not always work the same as the backup method for the older Sierra Hoyle products. And, that is due to the fact that the older Sierra Hoyle products might use entirely different facemaker files than the newer Encore products.
