CC12 Phases of the the Moon update past 2010 - 4/3/2013 12:20:12 PM    DEJenc3 Posts: 533 Joined: 6/22/2005 Status: offline Encore has released updated phases of the moon events for Calendar Creator 12 that can be imported into your Calendar Creator collections. The moon phases events that came with Calendar Creator 12 did not extend past year 2010. The update provides moon phases from 2011 to 2019. This link will provide access to the updated event file, and instructions for adding the events to your calendars: http://support.encore.com/technicalsupport/kb.aspx?kb_id=1683&product_id=2685 It's always advisable to copy your calendar to another location as a backup before making changes of this kind. If you are using the older events in your collections, you will likely want to remove them. Although they are accurate to 2010, your calendars will show moon phases for 2020 and beyond. Those will be incorrect. To remove your older moon phases, open your calendar in the Event List view. You will see the Category: Phases of the moon(Phases of the moon) These are the older events. you may select them, right-click, and choose "Remove." The updated events will have a Category: Phases of the Moon Those are the ones you will want to keep. _____________________________ David Post #: 1

On further checking, it does not seem to begin displaying phases until Feb. 2020. I also have version 12.2 and it will display the moon phases properly until the end of 2019. Starting with January 2020 there is nothing! I noticed this when first used on February 2019 so I contacted the sales lady and let her know. She said she would notify the support team, so hopefully there will be a patch sometime before the end of the year. Now if only someone from the support team will post a link, or tell us when and where it is when available that would be great. :) (in reply to DEJenc3) Post #: 11

I can't think of why we're seeing this conflicting display. Perhaps there's something that didn't get changed from my having uninstalled Calendar Creator 12.1 before loading Calendar Creator 12.2. Way back when I was using 12.1 there was a moon phase patch that I downloaded and it extended the moon phases until 2019. I still have the instructions that were included with the patch, it is below: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calendar Creator Deluxe v12.1 Moon Phase Update Problem Phases of the moon events stops after December 2010 Solution The phases of the moon events in Calendar Creator 12 does not show any events past December 2010. For that reason, the following update has been created below. Since the phases of the moon provided with Calendar Creator 12 are incorrect after December 2010, it is advised that you do not use that event in your calendars, but instead use this updated version. Follow the steps provided below to update your Calendar Creator 12 with the updated Phases of the Moon events. Navigate to http://go.encoreusa.com/873 Save or copy to the Local Disk/Program Files/Calendar Creator/Template/Events Open Calendar Creator 12 You will notice now that one of the event options is "Phases_of_the_Moon_Update_2011_to_2019". Choosing this event will provide you with the correct phases of the moon for your calendars. How to add an event to an opened calendar: Click on File, Import, Events. There you will be given the option to select any of the events available for Calendar Creator 12. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, it looks like 12.2 is currently using the same data base that was used for the 12.1 patch. The moon phase behavior you are getting is contrary to what lem3 and I are getting, so hopefully the tech support staff will issue a new patch soon. I'm not holding my breath, though. When I import that, in addition to the Phases of the Moon provided with CC12.2, I get an almost unbroken range of months with moon phases. (January 2020 has no moon phases in this scenario.) The moon phases in the patch dates have a black border around them, and for February 2020 forward there are no borders. I don't know if that was my doing or not, but it's an easy way to distinguish the source of the phases. I found that if I try to import the Phases into some existing calendars, the phases don't show, like what you and lem3 are experiencing. Please try this: start with a new, basic calendar, and import the phases. Do you now see phases beyond 2020? If so, then maybe we're all experiencing the same peculiarity or bug. Ideally, we could get a seamless moon phase patch, but it's unlikely to happen soon. Like you, I'm very pleased to have an updated CC12, and I've gotten used to using my Yahoo calendar for moon phases. _____________________________ David (in reply to MSGUSA) Post #: 14

Hopefully, it isn’t too confusing. If as a Moderator you have contacts within the tech support team or Encore management maybe you can get something done before the end of the year. If you used Calendar Creator Deluxe 12.1 and NEVER copied the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” patch to your computer and imported and saved a Calendar Collection using the original/included “Phases of the moon” events (moon phase without surrounding box) the phases of the moon will expire at the end of December 2010 and will not be displayed after that date. If you DID copy the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” patch to your computer and imported and saved a Calendar Collection using the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” events (moon phase surrounded in a box) it will display the phases of the moon through December 2020. ALSO, if you installed the update and imported both the original phases of the moon events AND the moon phase update it will display moon phases through December 2010 without the surrounding box and the moon phases from January 2011 through December 2019 with the surrounding box. In Calendar Creator 12.1, if you saved a collection file with either the original “phases of the moon” and/or the “moon phases update” the moon phase events are embedded into the file and will be displayed in the saved calendar file on a FRESH install on another computer in versions 12.1 OR 12.2. Calendar Creator 12.2 does NOT have the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” patch installed, it uses the Calendar Creator 12.1 “Phases of the moon” and will not display moon phase events after December 2010. You will need to copy the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” to your computer to display the moon phases through December 2019. The link to the “Moon Phase Update_2011 to 2019.bcc” in the patch instructions I posted in the earlier post above is still active. However, I believe the location to copy the file to is for Windows XP. Try this, but not on a calendar you want to keep: use a copy of a calendar. Delete/Remove any existing Phases of the Moon. You can use the Filter to identify them. Import the Phases of the Moon .bcc file supplied with CC12.2. See if any moon phase events show after February 2020. For example, go to March 2021. If the phases don't show, go to the Events view and locate the 4 imported Phases events. Again, you can use the Filter. Right-click one of the events, for example Full Moon. Look at the Category. On some of the calendars I've tested, although the Category is correct for Phases of the Moon in the Category's column display, the Properties displayed "Vacation" (even though the calendar contained no Vacation events). Now use the drop-down choices for Category: choose the correct category (Phases of the Moon). Even if the Category is already correct, select Phases of the Moon anyway. (This seems to be necessary for this to work.) Now see if there is a Full Moon displayed in March 2021 (on the 30th). The other phases won't display yet. At this point, you should see Full Moon phases from Feb. 2020 forward. If that is correct, you can change the other 3 Phase events in the same way. You can experiment with importing the CC12.1 patch to see current moon phases, though still leaving a gap in Jan-Feb. 2020. On the side of caution, I wouldn't save an existing calendar with these changes, or at least not without a backup, since this seems to be a buggy area. _____________________________ David (in reply to MSGUSA) Post #: 18
