Brandy redux -> Importing *.csv Files into a Calendar Collection (7/7/2007 11:34:36 PM)

Calendar Creator™ includes the option to import *.csv files from other applications into your calendar collections.
Event lists that are created in other applications using the comma-separated or comma-delimited value (*.csv) format can be imported by doing the following:
1. Open Calendar Creator™, then open a new or existing calendar collection.
2. Select 'File' in the menubar, then select 'Import' and 'Events' in the menu that drops down. An 'Open' window will appear.
3. Click the down arrow next to the box in the bottom right hand corner of the Open window (for WinXP, click the down arrow next to the 'Files of Type' box), then select 'CSV Event Files (*.csv)' in the list that drops down.
4. Click the down arrow next to the 'File Name' box (for WinXP, click the down arrow next to the 'Look in:' box), then browse to the location of the saved *.csv file.
5. Click on the *.csv file once to select it, then click on the 'Open' button. An 'Import Fields' window will appear with the contents of the file displayed.
6. Click 'Unassigned' above Field 1. A drop-down menu will appear.
7. Click the field name that corresponds to Field 1 (i.e., Event Description, Start Date, Category, etc.).
8. Repeat steps 6-7 for the remaining unassigned fields in the file to be imported.
9. Click 'OK' to finish the Import process. The events from the *.csv file will be imported into the open calendar collection.
These steps should work for all versions of Broderbund's Calendar Creator. But, they won't work for the much earlier versions of Calendar Creator that were released by PowerUp.
NOTE #1: One user has reported receiving an error message related to the MFC71.DLL file while attempting to import a *.csv file. That user also reported that the problem was solved by temporarily disabling his AVG anti-virus program. So, if you receive a similar error message while attempting to import a *.csv file, it couldn't hurt to temporarily disable your anti-virus software.
NOTE #2: It has also been learned that attempting to import a *.csv into an existing *.bcc calendar file, which already contains events and formatting, can cause an error message to be generated. And, this error message will often say "Calendar Creator 12 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
When this happens, the best course of action would be to open a new basic calendar file, import the *.csv file into that new basic calendar file, save that new basic calendar file in the standard *.bcc format, then import the events from that *.bcc file into the existing calendar file.
NOTE #3: Any *.csv file which is created for import into Calendar Creator should contain the following fields.
* 1 field should contain the description of the event (i.e. Michael John's Birthday, John & Mary's Anniversary, etc.)
* 1 field should contain the Category (i.e. Birthday, Anniversary, General, etc.)
* 1 field should contain the entire Start Date in the mm/dd/yyyy format.
