certd -> Error 1309. Error Reading from File (12/28/2007 3:40:49 PM)

Message:
Error reading from file E:|Program Files\Encore\Hoyle card games 2008\Hoyle Card Games.exe
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

This is at the 1 second remaining portion of the install.

Any thoughts

Hi certd,

What that message is telling you is that the Hoyle Card Games.exe file cannot be read from the disc.

Under normal circumstances, that can mean one of two things:

1. The disc is dirty and needs to be cleaned. If that's the case, you should be able to clean the disc then try the installation process again.

To clean the disc:

a. Use a mild detergent like dish soap, some warm water, and a clean cloth.

c. ALWAYS clean from the center out in a radial direction. NEVER wipe or rub around the disc in a circular motion.

c. Dry the disc with a lint-free cloth so that you don't add any more dust or scratches to the CD surface. Again, rub in a radial direction, from the center out.

2. The disc is defective.

It is not always possible to know for certain whether or not a CD/DVD is defective. But, to test the possibility that the CD/DVD might be defective, the first best course of action would be to try to install the software on a different computer. If the same install problem occurs on the other computer, the next best course of action would be to click on the link below

Technical Support & Customer Service: Broderbund, Encore, Hoyle, Bicycle

then follow the directions in that FAQ for contacting Customer Service - to inquire as to whether or not replacement disks are still available.

If a replacement is not possible, the next best course of action would be to check the Return/Refund Policy. The Return/Refund Policy for both Encore and Broderbund software applies even after the software is opened and installed.

One last thought, though:

If you did not do a 'clean' install, EXACTLY as described in this FAQ

'Clean' Install on Win98/Me/XP/2000/Vista/Win7

that *might* have caused the problem - because when a 'clean' install is performed, all background programs (including Internet Security and Anti-Virus programs) must be disabled before the install disk is placed in the drive.
