I have The Print Shop 22. How do I just put spot color on something. Like I want a picture black and white except the flowers, I want those lavender. And if I changed a picture to black and white and saved it, how do I get it back to its original color?

Programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements or MS Digital Image Pro can do this MUCH better than Print Shop which can do it, but with a choppy hand-cut with scissors look.

Select your photo. Copy/paste a duplicate onto the workspace. With this duplicate selected, go to Photo Tools and pick "Crop & Orientation". Use the free hand crop to select the flowers. (It takes practice to cut out irregular shapes with a mouse - that's why I mentioned that results can be "choppy").

When you are finished your cropping, click OK (DO NOT SAVE!)

Now your cropped flowers show up on your workspace.

Select the other photo and go to Photo Tools and pick Adjust Color. Click the "Make Black and White" button. Click OK.

Now the B&W photo appears on your workspace. Move the cropped flowers over top of the B&W photo to cover up the flower portion. Ta-dah!

You can't. The color information is destroyed, so it is IMPERATIVE that you keep a back-up of the original color photo. Save the B&W photo under a new filename rather than overwriting the original file.

I made this image for a friend who asked for exactly the same thing as you. I used Adobe Photoshop which has the right tools to do this job expertly. esp. brushes with soft edges.

If you have the PrintShop ProPublisher version with the Advanced Photo Editor built in, then it is possible to do this.

However, the Advanced Photo Editor was not designed to do this! A professional computer graphics artist such as myself can develop a workaround and I'd be happy to lead you through the steps. Warning: It's quite complicated and you will need to familarize yourself with the basic tools first.

Here's a screenshot which gives you an idea of what's involved. I point out the feather option (very important for this exercise).

Notice that I "magically" have two photos in the Advanced Photo Editor. Pretty wild because the Advanced Photo Editor will not accept more than one photo at a time.

So like I said, I came up with an ingenius way to accomplish "spot painting", albeit complicated because the program wasn't designed with this in mind.
