Brandy redux -> RE: the Print Shop 2.0 not compatible with earlier versions (1/17/2010 1:35:27 PM)

Hi Hippodrome,

What that means is that projects created with earlier versions of Print Shop cannot be opened in or imported into Print Shop 2.0 - because the earlier versions of Print Shop use a different file format than the file format that is used with Print Shop 2.0.

Brandy redux -> RE: the Print Shop 2.0 not compatible with earlier versions (1/18/2010 1:44:43 AM)

Hi Hippodrome,

The requirement to use TWO Print Shops is not new, by any means. I remember back in early 1990's when I initially stopped upgrading either PrintMaster or Print Shop (I don't exactly remember which one) because the newest version was not compatible with the version that I had been using.

The fact that Print Shop 2.0 is not compatible with the earlier versions of Print Shop has nothing to do with the capacity from the memory of the system - because the newer Operating Systems (i.e. Windows Vista and Windows 7) are capable of handling much more than the older Operating Systems.

Even though I have not yet received my copy of Print Shop 2.0, from what I have read about the Minimum System Requirements for Print Shop 2.0 on the Broderbund product site (most especially the fact that Print Shop 2.0 requires the much more current Microsoft® .NET Framework v3.5 while the older versions of Print Shop require the much older and outdated .NET Framework 1.1), it looks to me like the Print Shop 2.0 is an upgraded version which will be much more efficient and much more compatible with both Vista and Windows 7 than are the older versions of Print Shop.

So, until I receive my copy of Print Shop 2.0, I am going to assume that this upgrade is a good thing.

Since I have confirmed that Print Shop 20 and Print Shop 23 can be successfully installed on a 64-bit version of Windows 7, there is no need for anyone to update to Print Shop 2.0. Instead, they should be able to continue using those older versions of Print Shop on the newer Operating Systems - provided they install those older versions on the newer Operating Systems correctly, by way of the instructions in this FAQ

'Clean' Install on Win98/Me/XP/2000/Vista/Win7

and, provided that they keep in mind that if they receive an error message which says, "This program has known compatibility issues," they should just click on 'Run Program' to continue the installation.
