Brandy redux -> PM 7: Installing PrintMaster 7 on Windows 7 (1/31/2010 7:17:45 PM)

32-bit version of Windows 7:

When a ‘clean’ install is done of PrintMaster 7, exactly as described in this FAQ

'Clean' Install on Win98/Me/XP/2000/Vista/Win7

PrintMaster 7 should install quite easily on a 32-bit version of Windows 7.

If an error message is displayed which says, "This program has known compatibility issues," it should be possible to successfully install PrintMaster 7 by clicking on the 'Run Program' button.

It should be noted, however, that when PrintMaster 7 is started on a 32-bit version of Windows 7, a message will ALWAYS be displayed which says, "Connection Manager Component is missing. This component is required for online access. Re-install application to install this component".

This error message is irrelevant, and can be safely ignored, for several reasons:

1. Since PrintMaster 7 is a Mindscape product - NOT a Broderbund product - it is no longer possible to register PrintMaster 7 online.

2. The only other online access that was ever available for PrintMaster 7 was the Art and More Store. And, the Art and More Store was discontinued many years ago.

NOTE: Even though PrintMaster 7 will successfully install on a 32-bit version of Windows 7, there is no guarantee that PrintMaster 7 will be completely compatible with Windows 7 - because PrintMaster 7 was originally designed for only these Operating Systems

Windows Me / 2000 / 98 / 95 / NT, Unix, Linux, Mac

64-bit version of Windows 7:

It is not possible to install PrintMaster 7 on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 - because PrintMaster 7 is not compatible with any 64-bit Operating System. That is due to the fact that the PrintMaster 7 setup. exe file contains 16-programming code. 64-bit Operating Systems cannot handle any 16-bit programming code.

When PrintMaster 7 is installed on a 32-bit version of Windows 7, the default save folder for projects can be a bit confusing.

After selecting 'Save As' in the 'File' menu, and after the 'Save As' window opens, the folder that is displayed in the 'Save In' box is PROJECTS. And, when you click on the down arrow next to that box, the path to that folder will be shown as

C:\Program Files\Mindscape\PrintMaster\USER001\Projects

But, if you open Windows Explorer, you will see that that path does not exist. Instead, the path to the Projects folder will actually be

C:\Users\{username]\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files\Mindscape\PrintMaster\USER001\Projects
