blkeating -> multiple calendars using one event list (10/13/2010 12:18:23 PM)

In my old version of CC I could create multiple event list which I could save as a workspace for a specific calendar. For instance one list for my husbands family one list for my family and another to include everyone for me. I am not sure how I will be able to do this with version 12.1 if there is only one event list.

How would I exclude my husbands relatives from my family calender.

Hi blkeating,

As you have seen, in Calendar Creator 12.1, each Calendar Creator project contains only one Events List. And, each of those Events List is saved as a *.bcc file. However, since the Events List in one *.bcc file can be imported into any other Calendar Creator project, and since it is possible to import more than one *.bcc Events List into any new calendar, we often recommend that users think of each *.bcc file as a separate Events List.

So, for example, you could create one Calendar Creator project which contains only your Husband's relatives. Then, you could create another Calendar Creator project which contains only your relatives. Then, when you want to include both your relatives and your husband's relatives, you would open a 3rd Calendar Creator project, then import the *.bcc files for both your relatives and your husband's relatives into that new calendar.

Events lists which are saved as *.bcc files can be imported into any Calendar Creator project, by doing this:

1. After the calendar is opened on the workspace, select 'File' in the menu bar, then select 'Import' then 'Events' in the menu that drops down.

2. When the 'Open' window opens, navigate to the location of the *.bcc file that you want to import.

3. Click once on that file, then click on the 'Open' button.

4. Repeat the process with any other *.bcc Events lists that you want to import into that Calendar Creator project.

I can think of one way to manage two event listings in one calendar project, but it has a severe limitation. This would be to assign categories that are family-specific. For example, you could have categories "Birthday Family A" and "Birthday Family B" and assign the category to each person appropriately. Next, design calendar "Views" where you check off the categories you want to display in that view: you would, for example, check the category "Birthday Family A" and uncheck "Birthday Family B" for Family A's view.

The main drawback to this is maintaining parallel category lists. Also, in the Event List view, where you can filter by a category, you would not be able to filter ALL birthdays using the example above. You would have to filter by the birthdays for each family separately. However, if this doesn't interfere with the way you use categories, it's something to consider.
