Brandy redux -> Using the Insert | Word Processing file option (10/21/2010 8:18:49 PM)

Print Shop 23.1 - and several older versions of Print Shop - offer an option for inserting either a Word Processing file or a Spreadsheet file into an open Print Shop project.

Only *.doc files and *.xls files - which are, most commonly, created by 2003 and older versions of MSWord and MSExcel - are acceptable file formats.

Documents created with versions of MSWord newer than 2003 will be saved by default as *.docx files. And, documents created with versions of MSExcel newer than 2003 will be saved by default as *.xlsx files.

It should be possible to insert *.docx and *.xlsx files into an open Print Shop project - but, only after renaming the files with *.doc and *.xls file extensions. If that doesn't work, it will be necessary to open the *.docx and *.xlsx files in the MSOffice products in which they were originally created, then use the 'Save As' option to save them with the older file format options - 'Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)' or 'Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)' options.

To insert either an MSWord Word Processing file or an MSExcel Spreadsheet file into an open Print Shop project:

1. Click on 'Insert' in the Print Shop menu bar, then select 'Word Processing File...' in the menu that drops down.

2. When the 'Insert word processing files' window opens, the *.doc file format will be selected by default.

To insert an MSWord *.doc file, navigate to the location of the file, click once on the *.doc file, then click on the 'Open' button.

3. To insert an MSExcel *.xls spreadsheet file, click on the down arrow next to 'Files of Type:' then select 'Spreadsheet Files (*.xls)' in the list that drops down. Navigate to the location of the file, click once on the *.xls file, then click on the 'Open' button.

NOTE: If your *.doc or *.xls file has more than one page, only the first page will be pasted into the Print Shop text box. It is possible to view a multi-page *.doc or *.xls file in Print Shop - but only by double-clicking on the text box in Print Shop. Therefore, when you want to use a multi-page *.doc or *.xls file in a Print Shop project, it is preferable to use the Copy/Paste process.
