Brandy redux -> RE: Files PsdL 23 vs 23.1 (12/17/2010 3:12:00 PM)

Hi Hippodrome,

Before I answer your questions about the Content Folders, I probably should mention that, as far as I can tell, the only real difference between Print Shop 23 and Print Shop 23.1 is that Windows 7 is listed in the Minimum System Requirements for Print Shop 23.1. Other than that, I can see no difference between Print Shop 23 and Print Shop 23.1. And, if you are actually using Windows 7, you must be using a 32-bit version - because, if you were using a 64-bit version, Print Shop 23.1 would be installed in this folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\The Print Shop 23.1

The files that are stored in the Content folders are the projects and graphics which are included on the Print Shop disk - and which are installed on the computer during a Full Custom install. I suspect that the Content in Print Shop 23 is very little different from the Content in Print Shop 23.1. However, it is possible that Print Shop 23 actually offers more content than Print Shop 23.1.

The reason why you are seeing the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23\Content folder is because you did not do a thorough uninstall of Print Shop 23, as is described in this FAQ

http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=27430&mpage=1&key=%E6%AC%A6

When Print Shop 23.1 and earlier (and even PrintMaster 18.1 and earlier) is installed, portions of the program are installed in several different folders.

For example, on a Windows 7 computer, Print Shop, PrintMaster and several other Broderbund programs will install portions of the program in these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\[your-username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Broderbund Software\Print

C:\ProgramData\Broderbund Software\Print

C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\Local\Broderbund Software\Print

However, when those programs are uninstalled, the portions of the program which are installed in those different folders are not uninstalled. And, as a matter of fact, even the primary C:\Print Shop folder and what is installed in that folder, are not always uninstalled. So, as is advised in the "Uninstalling Software: Thoroughly & Safely" which I referenced above, it is always a good idea to search the hard drive after uninstalling any software, then manually remove any files and folders which were not uninstalled.

The C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23\Content folder is where the graphics and projects are installed when a Full Custom install is selected. However, even though that folder is still on your hard drive, Print Shop 23.1 will not be able to access that folder - because Print Shop 23.1 is designed to access only its own \Content folder.

As I said above, I suspect that the Content in Print Shop 23 is very little different from the Content in Print Shop 23.1. So, if I were you, the first thing I would do is to compare the files in the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23 to the files in the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23.1 folder. Then, I would

1. Back up any files that are in the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23\Content folder but are not in the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23.1\Content folder.

2. Copy or Move those files to the C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23.1\Content folder.

3. Delete the entire C:\Program Files\The Print Shop 23 folder.

Then, I would search the hard drive for other portion of Print Shop 23 which have not been uninstalled, then manually remove those files and folders.
