laszlo1 -> How to import Parsons Technology ADBOOK .AB2 files (11/24/2014 8:37:36 AM)

The Print Shop Deluxe 23.1 I lost my Parsons Technology Address Book 6 program due to hardware failure.
I do, however, have a backed-up copy of my old Parsons Address Book 3 created address file shown on the backup hard disk as ADBOOK.AB2.

I’m trying to avoid having to re-type all those addresses, but I can't open the backup file and I don’t have them in any hard-copy format.
Parsons Technology Address Book is no longer available and I can't find an old copy of it. I'm told that The Print Shop Deluxe 23.1 can open these files.

I was told by Print Shop Deluxe customer support that:
If you owned a version of the Parson’s Address Book 2.0–5.0, the data can be opened and restored in the Ultimate Mail Manager—the address book portion of The Print Shop® 23.1.

This reply is good, but not enough to convince me that I should buy the product. I need to understand how I can import the old Parsons Address Book file.
I looked at the Ultimate Mail Manager function in the user’s manual on your Encore Support page, but it does not answer my question in sufficient detail.
It mentions the ability to print envelopes with selected addresses from the address book portion, but my question still is how I can import the old .AB2 file?
Where is that explained in the user’s manual?

My question still is:
How could Print Shop import and open this file, and in what format would the addresses appear?
Does Print Shop include an address book that can be used to selectively print addresses on envelopes and/or labels?
Is there a detailed description of the Ultimate Mail Manager portion of The Print Shop 23.1 that I could study prior to ordering the product?
This is the only application I want to use in print shop, I don’t know anything about the others. I’m using Windows 7.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Very simply. In the Ultimate Mail Manager program, you File> Open... browse to where you stored your AB2 file and select it.

If you would like me to email you a screen capture of your AB2 file opened in UMM, so you can see how it looks, click my email icon below my avatar.

Deluxe and Pro Publisher both have UMM.

As an option for you, I can open your AB2 file and export it as a tab or comma delimited file which should be a universally compatible file that you can import to any form of address book. e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.

However, getting Print Shop 23.1 Deluxe will let you mail merge onto address labels and envelopes, which is a very useful function. Plus, the program is on sale right now!

Thank you Ellengard for your reply. I've installed The Print Shop 23.1 Deluxe from Encore. I followed your instructions to try to open my old AB2 file which is stored on an external backup hard drive. There are three backed up files named: .AB2 AB2 File 292 KB, AB2012.AB2 AB2 File 304 KB, and ADBOOK.AB2 AB2 File 292 KB.
In the Ultimate Mail Manager Window I clicked on File and Open and then I tried to open all three of my backed up .AB2 files. When I opened the file called .AB2 I did get an empty UMM window containing an empty [ADBOOK.AB2] address book page. However when I clicked on the file named AB2012.AB2 nothing happened at all, and when I tried to open ADBOOK.AB2 I got an error message from PMW saying "Unable to read file. File Type not supported."

When I tried to open the Help function I got Help text for Address Book 6.

Now I'm puzzled... where am I going wrong?

Can you help? Thanks again,

Laszlo

I can send you a test AB2 file, to verify that the program is working properly. Look for an email from me to the address you registered at this forum.
