Nuggett187 -> cropping a photo into different shapes (10/26/2015 1:06:56 AM)

ATTN ellengard;

Once again I have a question regarding The new Print Shop Professional, vers. 3.5. And, I'm coming to you for some more of your expertise!

I've been sailing along fairly well, since you so graciously most recentl ygave me all the help with my round labels, etc. in my new vers (3.5 professional) of The Print Shop.

But, now it's that time of year to begin thinking about my annual Christmas letter, and it appears I have to start from scratch this year, since I can't seem to open the one I printed in December, 2014, although it was also from this new professional 3.5 vers of The Print Shop. I don't understand that, but, that's a whole 'nother problem.

I'm attaching herewith a (PDF format) sample of my 2014 Christmas letter, and you will see that all of my photos are circular. In the previous vers of The Print Shop that I used (vers. 22/23), there was a place in it to convert square photos to circular. I don't remember now (without having it at my disposal to refer to), what the wording was, but, it seems like it was something about photo editor and it was possible to change my square photo to several different varieties of shapes, such as round, heart, etc. If that is possible in this new version of The Print Shop Professional 3.5, I don't have a clue where to go to be able to do that. I suspect it's not possible, but, am hoping it might be.

Just wondering if you have ever worked with such a thing and, if so, can help me out in that department.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

There are two methods in which this can be achieved.

  1. adding a shape to your project and then putting a image (photo) fill in the shape
  2. applying a crop shape to your photo via the Image Editor

For Method 1, instructions are here:
http://www.printshop.com/blog/2015/2/1/fill-a-shape-with-a-photo.aspx
The demonstration uses different rectangular shapes, but you can choose oval, heart, etc.

For Method 2, instructions are here:
http://www.printshop.com/blog/2015/4/1/cropping-photos.aspx
The demonstration uses the Crop button in the Photo Editor, but you can click the Crop to Shape button instead, to choose any of the proffered shapes.

Method 2 takes a little bit longer, but gives you more control over crop placement.

Tip: When using the crop tool, hover over a corner until you see the two-headed arrow. Click and drag each corner to set your crop area.
