G1n4 -> Text Wrap (10/31/2015 4:03:04 PM)

I just bought PrintMaster 7 specifically because the advertising page said one of the newly added features was "improved text wrap feature allows text to flow around images and clipart". However, I am not able to find any instructions in the manual, or a video, or even a likely button (I've poked 'em all). Can someone point me to some instructions?

Thanks!

I've searched the user manual and explored the program extensively. I also do not see a text wrap feature. I've tried right-clicking both the text box and an object, but there is no "Wrap text around object" option as there is in The Print Shop 3.5.

I will ask around and post what I find out.

I was just over at http://www.printmaster.com/video-tutorials/ and watched the video "PrintMaster v7 Platinum New Features". At the 1:05 mark, the text wrap feature is explained. It was not what I expected because I would describe it as a linking text boxes feature. However, this is what the ad is referring to.

The text wrap feature in The Print Shop 3.5/4.0 is different. When you put an object on top of the text, the text moves around the object, instead of being covered up by the object.

This would be the curve feature. See the image I've posted below. This is what you will use to wrap text around the boxed or other areas you work with on the project.

In desktop publishing, text wrap is known as normal paragraph text with an image inserted within the text box, such as in this screen capture.

The curved text you describe is decorative text, for such things as writing "To my valentine" around a heart shape. Curved text is also popular as part of a logo. Curved text is known as "text along a path" in graphic design. It is not considered text wrapping which is used in news articles where a block of text is expected to be read left to right, then down to the next line.

Ellengard, you've described it. If one looks at the website "http://www.printmaster.com/", scroll down to where it claims "Powerful New Text Handling Capabilities". It shows text wrap around a clipart cupcake. That's what I wanted. This isn't the same as "Curve" as suggested by another person. I've asked this question of technical support because I'd like someone there to actually say whether the feature is implemented or not. All I get is boilerplate replies that direct me to this forum.

I'm beginning to think this was false advertising.

Personally, I feel the term "text wrap" is used here in the broadest, non-technical sense of the word. In the business world of publishing, text wrap is exactly as I described in post #5. What PrintMaster 7.0 offers is linking text boxes. My guess is that the words "linking text boxes" may not convey the sought-after effect which is to make text look like it is wrapping around an object. So while it is accurate to say, "new text handling capabilities", "text wrap" is an industry term, which IMHO shouldn't be used as a general description for placing text around an object.

If you are dissatisfied with PM7 because it does not have a true text wrap feature, you can perhaps exchange it for The Print Shop 4.0. Encore has a satisfaction guarantee.

Just thought I'd include a screen capture of what you referred to. The picture does show something that even linking text boxes cannot accomplish!

This does state, separately from linked text boxes, "improved text wrap feature allows text to flow around images and clipart." This is not a true statement unless there is a patch we are supposed to get. I will ask around... Stay tuned.
