Due to the advances in technology, newer computers today are coming with more than one sound card built into the device. If you're having issues with sound, ensure that the default sound card is connected.
At the bottom right hand side of the screen, right click the speaker icon and select "Playback Devices"
Make sure that the appropriate device is selected. If it's not, right click on the sound card and select "Set as default device"
The sound should work again.
