I've been trying to custom stock for the Avery Label 5167, but I have been unsuccessful several times. I continue to get the error message "cannot render project" error while trying to print. Here are the settings that I have used:

Paper Dimensions -
Unit of Measure: Inch
Width: 8.5
Length: 11

This is a stock Label- box is checked

Label Setup -
Number of Rows: 20
Distance between Rows: 0
Number of Columns: 4
Distance between Columns: 0.25

Top Left position of 1st label:
Top: 0.5
Left: 0.3

The outline of the labels on this setup screen are correctly showing, but I am still unable to print. What am I doing wrong??? I suspect that my label setup is wrong in some way, but I cannot figure it out. This is so frustrating as there are no other installed Avery templates that would work for my project with the Avery 5167 labels. Please help.

Let's get one thing out of the way. Do you have the latest update for our program?

You're doing it right. I used your custom stock numbers and was able to print 80 labels. I am using version 4.0.1. I can't remember how I got the update, but Jason can help you with that.

As an immediate workaround, you can Save As PDF, open that in Adobe Reader, and print it from that program.

In the project picker interface, to the right of the interface there is notice that says "An Update is available"

Clicking on that link will download the update. After downloading the update, make sure the program is closed out completely before running the file.

Control Alt Delete and click on Task Manager to see if it's still running in the background. Once you have verified that the process has been closed you can safely run the update file which will replace 4.0 with 4.01

Hi,

I'm sorry that it took me a while to get back to you. I'm at the computer that has the program now, and it appears as if I already have version 4.0.1.0. I used different settings that I found on the internet for those Avery labels, but it still doesn't work. When I select that custom stock, I get an error saying that the Width and Height must be non-negative. I've attached a screenshot of the settings that I just used.

I guess that I got the same error message on the 1st settings for the custom stock that I created, and when I go to print the label using either settings, I get the "cannot render project" error.

Thank you for the help.

I am going to send you an email through the forums email system to follow up, look for my email shortly :)

Both of your custom settings are valid since they do produce 80 labels a sheet. The problem is definitely a program tech issue, not user error. However, both of your custom settings produce labels that are close to 1.75 inches wide, but not exactly 1.75 inches.

I wish the Avery website would publish margin and gap measurements!

If you are in a time crunch, you can get your Avery labels in PDF format for home printing. Go to the Avery home page. Look for their Design & Print service. It's free. You can still use your own design. See this blog article for details.
