On the older versions you used to be able to add a border and it would just be on the outside of the page. Now when I go to add border, it brings up border plus and it puts the border in every square. Does anyone know how to just get one borer?

To put a border along the edges of the page, the easiest method: draw a rectangle with transparent fill; change the outline width and outline color to whatever you want.

Also, under Effects, Insert Backdrop, there are a couple of border style backgrounds. Under Art & Photos, Insert Frame, there are some simple frames that can serve as borders. And then there is the Borders category in the Art Gallery. Over 14,000 clipart "borders" for different occasions.

How do you get the actual picture borders. I can do the solid color ones. They actually have a border with different things.

We were typing at the same time. Please see the additional suggestions I added in my edit.

This is what I am talking about. This puts the border in each square. You have the border around the whole document several times.

The Border Plus feature is for making custom borders e.g. tiling your own photo around the edge of the page. Do not use Border Plus unless your purpose is to tile an image. Simply choose a border from the Art Gallery and position it on your page like this:

To be clear: Do not "Insert Border". Choose "Insert Art & Photos".[image]local://upfiles/9017/23365B9E19694FD8A9C438B3B9C52FCF.jpg[/image]

As I also mentioned in post #2, Insert Frame has some nice choices:

Thank you so much. I did know about the frames, but I could not get the border thing figured out.

This helps so much.

I am a former PS22 user that just upgraded to 4.0 Deluxe. I used to use the process that ellengard mentions to put custom boxes around items. I cant figure out how to do that in 4.0.. Please help.

To be very clear. I have a photo, with a caption below it. I would like to put a custom-sized box around the photo and the text box.

Add a rectangular shape. Choose transparent fill. Choose an outline color and thickness. Size and position this shape to fit around your captioned photo. (See picture in the post below.)

Another technique is to use instant photo frames:

Some of these borders are very thick so adding the text box on top of the lower part of the border may look good for your project.

Here's a screen snip of using a shape and editing the shape's border.

You don't have to use a transparent fill for your shape. Choose an appropriate color fill, but then place your shape below your photo and text box.

Still struggling with this. I wish there were better step by step directions? In the user guide maybe? But I cant find it
So I added the shape, was able to adjust the color and thickness of the border, but how or where do I "choose transparent fill"? My box is solid which is covering up the stuff I want to put the border around

Yes, read the user guide and learn the basics. This is a totally new program with a totally new interface so trying to use it as if were an update of the old program will just frustrate you and make everything take longer.

Once you read about working with shapes, you'll realize how easy it is.
