kmrma53 -> Printing 5x7 photo option (2/7/2018 12:30:24 PM)

When I want to print a 5x7 photo and go to the print window to change the paper size to 5x7 I do not have that option.
I have changed all the options to 5x7 on my printer settings but for some reason the Print Shop window does not have that
option. It doesn't have any of the normal photo size options. Any suggestions??

Did you choose a custom size in the printer settings like the one shown here?

Click on Output size and see if changing it helps.

The correct method is to create a custom 5x7 paper stock. You would do this at the start, in order to select this new stock so that your project page comes up as 5x7.

Jason's suggestion is for oversize printing i.e. to rescale a project to fit on several sheets of paper that you would tape together. Do not use this feature for printing 5x7.

ellengard is right! Sorry I get those features mixed up sometimes! [:)]

Important note about creating a paper stock:
The height is the bigger number, so for height, you would type 7; for width, you would type 5.

Then if you need to design a "wide" page, you choose landscape orientation.

If you have time to waste, try making the height the smaller number, so you can see how this messes up the print alignment.

Thanks for your replies. I have tried both suggestions and I am still getting my 5x7 printed on an 8.5 x 11 paper.
I am going to keep trying different things and if you have any other suggestions let me know.
Thanks
Kathy

What happens when you export the file to a JPG? Does it still appear as an 8.5x11 piece of paper?

Are you putting 8.5 x 11 paper into your printer?

ellengard -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/8/2018 2:27:18 PM)

If you are inserting 5x7 paper into your printer, your project must look like mine here. Notice I am placing my photo onto a SIGN project canvas that measures 5x7.

Tip: If you just want to print your photo, it is easier to do it straight from your printer's photo printing app.

kmrma53 -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 8:55:16 AM)

I have two paper trays in my printer, the main tray for 8.5x11 and the photo tray for 4x6 and 5x7.
I have the printer set for the 5x7 photo tray. What I am trying to print is a postcard project that I have just imported
photos onto. Will continue to work on this. Let me know if you have any other ideas
Thanks
Kathy

ellengard -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 11:22:45 AM)

So are you saying that even though you tell your printer to use the 5x7 tray, it keeps taking from the 8.5x11 tray? What happens if you remove all the paper from the 8.5x11 tray? Will your printer just refuse to print, then?

When a printer acts up and doesn't follow its setup instructions, I go check for updated drivers. If the drivers are up-to-date, I reinstall them.

kmrma53 -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 12:19:43 PM)

Will give that a try.
Thanks
Kathy

kmrma53 -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 12:24:23 PM)

Sorry, I didn't answer your question.
Yes it will not print when I take the 8.5x11 paper out.
Kathy

kmrma53 -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 1:53:23 PM)

I reinstalled drivers and that did not help. Sooo I tried some experimenting. I took a 4x6 template in Photo Shop that is set up and just printed that without any changes thinking because I originally did a blank project that maybe that was the issue. It printed on 8.5x11 paper. So then I went to all the options for size that needed to be changed including the paper tray and changed them all to 4x6 and it still printed on 8.5x11. So I took it one more step and went to completely different software that I have for printing pictures. I printed a picture without making any changes and it printed on 8.5x11 paper. Then I changed all the options to 5x7 including changing the paper tray from the main tray to photo tray and it printed out a 5x7 picture. So my other software seems to be working ok. Just for reference sack I have an HP Envy7640 printer. Now what do I do??

JasonC -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 2:55:49 PM)

Not to go to extremes but what happens if you were to take out the paper in all the trays except for the one with that photo Will it force it to print there then?

JasonC -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/9/2018 3:37:26 PM)

I spoke with our developers just now and they were able to print this stock. They mentioned that they had to go into the printer properties through the software that came with their printer and change the paper stock to 5x7.

Possibly the HP printer is not 100% compatible with The Print Shop 3.5. The workaround is to Save as PDF. Open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.

kmrma53 -> RE: Printing 5x7 photo option (2/10/2018 3:26:44 PM)

Saving to a PDF then printing in Adobe worked. Not quite as efficient but it will be OK.
Thanks for all your help.
Kathy

You're welcome. I recall even 10 years ago, HP printers (especially the all-in-one printers) had some compatibility issues with Broderbund software.
