Hello, I have installed Reader Rabbit Kindergarten Favorites on our Windows XP computer. It runs fine while logged onto my account which has administrator priviledges but crashes as soon as the Camp Happy Trails start scene loads when the kids are logged onto their accounts with limited access. Is there a patch for this or can it only run properly when administrator priviledges are enabled? I hate to give a 5 year old administrator priviledges to our new computer.
There is no patch for any of the Adventure Workshop programs. But, it should not be necessary for you to give Administrator privileges to your 5-year-old for the entire computer. Instead, you should be able to enable administrator privileges for just the Reader Rabbit Kindergarten Favorites program.
Enabling administrator privileges for one specific program is normally done by following the directions on this Microsoft web site
It should be noted that many programs which were originally designed before WinXP was released still expect the user to have administrator privileges - because those programs were designed when everyone logged onto the computer with the same privileges. However, when WinXP was released with the option of giving users different privileges, many software developers chose to not rewrite the software for the Limited User Accounts.
AWESOME!! That worked great and it solved problems we were having with other programs also!! One program always opened in spanish and we would have to reset it to english very time we turned it on, now everything works like it should. Thank you, Thank you.
I guess I spoke too soon. That does work but I have to use the "run as" command and use the administrator password every time. Is there a way to save this setting so that it runs the program as the administrator every time without having to ask for permission?
I had suspected that it might be necessary to use the "run as" command every time a program is run. But, since there is only the one administrator account on my 2 computers - because I'm only person in my household who uses either of my computers , I wasn't sure that was the case.
However, since the "run as" command is required every time Reader Rabbit Kindergarten Favorites is run, I'm afraid there are only two options - either create an administrator account for your 5-year-old child or choose a different program which does not require administrator access to run the program.
