The toolbar is not hidden, there is a blank bar framing the top and right hand sides of the window-frame. If you select "Hide Toolbar" the framing bar disappears. "Show Toolbar" restores. If you activate Camera/3-D view mode, the toolbar associated with that window view appears. Closing that window does not restore the regular toolbars. I can provide screenshots if needed.
The only purpose of the "Hide Toolbar" option and the "Show Toolbar" option is to toggle the Toolbar OFF & ON. And, when 3DHA 4.0 is installed on a compatible Operating System with a compatible graphics card driver, those options work exactly the way they were designed.
What you described sounds very much like a display issue. And, the recommended solution for display issues is to click on this link
then follow the directions in that FAQ for updating your video card driver.
If updating your video card driver does not solve your problem, the problem you are experiencing might be the result of a compatibility issue with your Operating System. And, if that is truly the case, the recommended solution is to click on this link
