First time poster here. I cannot find in my PrintShop-10 manual any way to use one design for more than one type of document, e.g. I have some nice name card designs that I would like to use as address labels, and vice versa. Is there a way for this to be easily accomplished in PS-10?

Assistance will be very much appreciated.

Gene

... use one design for more than one type of document...

Yes, you can save your design to be used in any Print Shop project. Open the project with this design. Select all the elements that make up this design and group them as one object. File| Export As... make sure you check "Add to Art Gallery" choose this format: BMO (Broderbund Print Meta Object).

Next time you open a new project, you can insert this BMO from the Art Gallery.

Tip: to edit the BMO, you may need to ungroup the elements.

Thanks for the reply, but I have encountered a problem. I do not have a .BMO option to save as, but do have .BMP, which I chose. When I then started a new project (mail label) all worked well until I selected the saved art to insert. Instead of it all fitting into the project space, it filled the entire work page.

How do I overcome that?

Thanks, again,

Gene

Then it is called something else in your old version. I'd look for it in the drop down menu because it is preferable to to BMP which rasterizes and flattens your design so that resizing distorts the image and you can't edit the separate elements.

You resize it, just as you would when inserting any image into a project.

I just noticed that I wrote ".bmo" when I should have wrote ".pmo" (Broderbund Print Object). It's the onlky thing, kin the dropdown menu that's anywhere close.

Second, in the name card from which I am saving the design, I note that there are the resize handles not only on the entire design but also on the name/address box inside the design. The only weay I know how to do this sort of thing is to first insert the art then a text box within that.

Now, when I import the design into the label I want to create, the resize handles are only on the name/address, not on the overall design.

I do appreciate your time and patience with this 73-year-old fossil.

Yes, you want the Broderbund Print Object format.

Select all and group. Now you can resize the image and text box with one click and drag, but you still have to resize the text separately by highlighting the text and choosing a new font size.

OK, one more question and then I should be OK. You said "Select all and group". OI understand "select all", but the "group" part is new to me.

Thanks again,

Gene

If short-cut keys are the same in PS 10 as they are in PS 22 (which is what I have), then ctrl-G will group everything that is selected.

Look in your Help menu - keyword search "group" - to find which menu command has this feature.

Once again, I do very much appreciate your help. I have done everything as you suggested. I found thru Help what I needed to know about grouping. As stated, the resizing handles on the text portion of my project disappeared leaving only the handles for the total design. Except that it still does not work for me. The imported image that I have saved still takes up the entire work space. The handles are indeed there but only exposed after I move the work up/down or to the side. But then the handles opposite are still hidden.

I've now come to the conclusion that the simplest solution for me is to simply use the original art and then reinsert the text.

Thanks again for trying. I promise I won't pester you again. ;-)

If you are having trouble with the handles, just resize using the menu commands instead.

Well, thanks for ignoring me when I had given up. Success at last!

Let me explain what I have been doing. I lived and worked in Japan for 25 years of my 35-year career. I am a Japanese linguist (plus Mandarin and Burmese) and am very fond of Japanese art. I use a variety of such art as the basis for name cards, mailing labels and greeting cards.

Best regards,

Gene

I'm glad you have achieved success! I would love to see an example of the art you use for your cards. Perhaps you wouldn't mind exporting the front of the card as a JPG (under 600x600 pixels so it will fit nicely in your post if you check "Embed picture in post") and uploading it to this forum.

Thank you, that's lovely. It reminds me of a business card I made for a client with its full bleed background picture of a cultural nature.
