I have Print Shop Deluxe, Version 21. I created a class yearbook with graphics, photos, etc and saved it as a PDF to send to the printers. The file can not be opened by the printer and when I go back into my folder, I can't retrieve the pdf file or the print shop file.

Every time I attempt to open file, it takes a long time then I get "Abnormal Program Termination" message and the entire software shuts down.

Is there any way this file can be restored/repaired/retreived? This is months of hard work.

If not, any idea what I did wrong? I will need to recreate this document and I would hate to make the same mistakes.

Thanks

Hi linettew,

Since the printer cannot open the PDF file and you are not able to open either the PDF file or the Print Shop file, that would indicate, I'm afraid, that the file cannot be restored/repaired/retrieved.

Just to be sure, I'd be happy to take a shot at opening the file if you would click on the email message at the bottom of this message, attach the Print Shop file (NOT the PDF file) to the email, then send that file to me.

For future reference, you might want to keep in mind that the problem you are experiencing might very well have been caused by a file that was allowed to become too large. For any project which contains large amounts of graphics, photos, etc., it is recommended that that project be broken up into smaller, separate projects - to reduce the possibility of the entire project becoming corrupt.

I really do hope you'll be able to open your Print Shop file and break it down into smaller files. I've had to do that before myself, but it worked out.

Creating a PDF will be a problem, though. Unfortunately, a PDF created from a Print Shop 21 file is notoriously large, even if it's less than 5 pages. Trying to generate a PDF for the entire yearbook will likely freeze your computer or create a corrupted PDF.

There is a way to create a high quality PDF, but first things first. You'll need to access your Print Shop file in order to retrieve all the content.

If you end up having to start all over, I highly recommend you use a different program* that will convert to PDF with embedded fonts. Without embedded fonts, you can't get a high quality multi-page PDF.

*MS Publisher, MS Word
