I have just change computers and now have Windows 8. I use Printshop 23.1 I am trying to save a project as a PDF but when I try to save it the printer box comes up and went let me save it. this has never happened before. I need to change it to a PDF so that I can send it to people who don't have printshop.

Probably the Save As PDF function no longer works on Win 8. You can download a free copy of a good PDF writer here:
http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

Once installed, you can use it with ANY program, not just Print Shop. To create your PDF, go to the Print command and choose the "cute PDF printer".

Another option is to export your project as JPG and email the JPG.

thank you for you reply but I want to save my project AS a PDF I downloaded the program you gave me but it still doesn't work. I am getting a message box saying Printer not activated Error Code 20 I have googled it but it tells me to go to the start screen in Windows 8 and right-click on final draft 9/8 but I cannot find it anywhere. it is a nightmare as I need to send my project to other people which I have always been able to do before in Windows 7 by saving it as a PDF. I am afraid that I am tearing my hair out. any advice you can give me is very welcome.

There are two files that need to be installed in order for the Cute PDF writer to work. Did you install both? converter.exe and CuteWriter.exe

I just checked some older posts which confirm that The Save as PDF option in The Print Shop 23 and in earlier versions of The Print Shop will not work on Win 8 because the Broderbund PDF driver which is installed with those versions of The Print Shop is not compatible with any 64-bit Operating System.

So it is important to install a Win 8 compatible PDF printer driver. If you continue to have trouble with the one I suggested, you can search for other free ones.

There's a good sale at Encore.com for this PDF program:

I have download all the PDF converters you suggested and have also tried some other ones but unfortunately nothing works on Windows 8. I am now coming to the conclusion that I will have to upgrade to Printshop 3.5 De-luxe although reading the review I am not sure if I am wasting my money. in the past I have used Printmaster and Printshop 22 and now 23 I really like it as it fits my needs as I publish a small newsletter and I need to be able to convert it to a PDF so that other people can read it.
Please can you confirm that I will be able to do this before I buy it.

thanks for your help

You have nothing to worry about with the Print Shop 3.5 as far as purchasing it goes. We will refund your money if you're not completely satisfied with the product and in addition we offer live telephone support for technical issues, and offer email support in the event things go wrong so you're completely covered customer service wise :)

In addition, our expert forum users such as ellengard , lindarobin and DEJenc3 do a great job of assisting our customers with our products when it comes to creating projects so please do use these forums as much as you need to if you get lost along the way with the new product.

There may also be some upgrade incentives to upgrading to a newer version as well so please call our customer service line at 1-800-395-0277 to inquire if such promotions are running and to place an order.

We have 3 different versions of Print Shop 3.5 , so when calling let your customer service rep know what you're going to be doing as The Print Shop 3.5 standard has minimalistic features all the way to the king of the printing programs Print Shop Professional 3.5 which has lots of features.

It would be unusual for all your installed PDF writers not to work - perhaps the problem is limited to Print Shop 23.1 only.

Try this:
Right-click any JPG. From the dialog box, print it to one of the PDF drivers you installed. If this creates a PDF for you, that's good news. It means you can export your Print Shop project to JPG, then convert the JPG to PDF. Basically, that's what the Broderbund PDF writer does anyway.

When emailing a newsletter, you want both small file size and super sharp text. You get this when your PDF has embedded fonts. Encore sells PagePlus:
http://www.encore.com/p-482-serif-pageplus-essentials-deluxe.aspx
This program produces newsletters and converts them to PDF with embedded fonts, which no version of Print Shop can do.

I have both Page Plus and The Print Shop 3.5. For creating professional PDFs, I personally choose Page Plus. If you want to see an example of a Page Plus created newsletter PDF, click my email icon and send me a message. I will be happy to send you a sample. You will be impressed with the quality.
