My original files were created in Print Shop Deluxe 22 and with WindowsXP. Now I have Windows 7 and Print Shop Deluxe 3.5. My files are coming up as pcr file type and not files. How can I correct this?

PCR is a valid file type. It is Print Shop v22 postcard project. It will open in v3.5.
Here is the how-to video:

I have viewed the video tutorials and follow the instructions on how to move the files but it still won't work.

Thanks, got it. Look for my reply. Check Junk/Spam folder in case unknown senders end up there.

FYI, if you want to have Print Shop 22 on your Win7 computer, here are instructions:

When Print Shop 22 is installed on Win7, an incompatibility issues error message will be encountered, which has led many Print Shop 22 to believe that Print Shop 22 cannot be installed on Windows 7.

Hi, daguidry,

I received your two files. One opened, the other did not. I will investigate/ experiment and post what I find later tonight.

Also, can you tell me if these were the only two files that wouldn't open for you in 3.5 OR do NONE of the files open and these two are a sampling of them?

Your file: "Anniversary_Card_-_60th_Wedding_Anniversary_8-23-11.not"
did open in PS3.5, but the conversion was far from perfect. I made my own .not project in v23.1 and again, the conversion into PS3.5 was no better.

My guess is that PS3.5 cannot convert this particular project because it is too complicated i.e. two double-sided cards on one sheet of paper.

Your file: "Immunization_Record_-_front_side_-_in_PS_#_8387_Always_print_FRONT.pcr"
would not open in PS3.5. However, I opened it in PS23.1, deleted some items and resaved. After that, it did open in PS3.5, but the conversion was not perfect. It would only print one postcard instead of four on one sheet which was how the original file was supposed to work.

Again, my guess is that the file is too complicated for the conversion process i.e. this was double-sided (postcard projects are double-sided regardless if the back side is blank), four cards on one sheet.

Unfortunately, if the bulk of your older projects are double-sided, multi-up, you will not be satisfied with the conversion.

Probably the best solution for you is to install Print Shop 22 on your Win 7 computer.

I will experiment with your projects to see if making them single-sided, one-up, will be compatible with the conversion. Then it would be only a little bit of extra work to change the project type in PS3.5, to bring it back to a double-sided, multi-up project.

After experimenting, I find that the sign project (file extension .sig) which is a single-sided, one-up project, will open in Print Shop 3.5 with no problems. So you could copy elements from a note card project, and paste them into a sign project. The sign project will open in 3.5, giving you all the elements you need to reassemble a note card.

There is one caveat. Any image that you have altered by adding some form of transparency (e.g. crop to a non-rectangle shape, shadows, glows, transparency effects/edges, etc.) will lose those effects.

If you wish to keep all your altered images as one permanent image that shows transparency effects, then export the project as high resolution JPG. This is the only way to include any backdrop or panel effect.

Note: Don't include any text in the export to JPG, unless that text is to be permanent and you have no intention of editing it.

After some experimenting, I found that the merged cells in your tables cannot be read in PS3.5. Editing the tables by choosing one of the auto-format options, corrected the problem. PS3.5 can now open the file. PS3.5 does not have an option to merge cells, so you would have to fit that data into a separate text box.

So what you are tell me is that my files won't open correctly in PS3.5. We tried installing PS22 on my computer with Win7 and it won't install that why we purchased the new software to begin with. Is there any advice you can give me on install PS22 on my computer with Win7?

If you recently purchased Print Shop 3.5 from us and you feel 23.1 would be better for your older projects, we can do an exchange for the 23.1 product. Contact our customer support department for more info on exchanges.

That is a really good offer! Version 23.1 was specifically made to be compatible with Win 7. It can open all version 22 projects, and it looks and operates just like 22.

Yay, Encore!
