The Custom Paper Wizard, which can be selected by clicking on 'Tools' in the menubar, allows you to add new or unsupported paper stock for a variety of projects:

*Labels

*Business Cards

*Envelopes

*1/2 Fold Greeting Cards

*Note Cards

*Postcards

Note: The Custom Paper Wizard is not available in some versions of The Print Shop. And, The Print Shop supports many custom paper stock types, but not all.

Paper Width & Paper Height:

The single most important point to keep in mind while using the Custom Paper Wizard is that regardless of how a Custom Paper Stock is to be used - Portrait or Landscape - the Custom Paper Wizard expects 'Paper Width' to ALWAYS be set to the actual Width (shortest side) of the paper and the 'Paper Height' to ALWAYS be set to the actual Length (longest side) of the paper. And, for projects that are to be folded, the Custom Paper Wizard expects the 'Paper Width' and 'Paper Height' settings to be the actual UNFOLDED size of the paper.

So, for example, if you wanted to create a Custom Label Stock with paper that is 8.5" x 11", you would set the Paper Width as 8.5" and the Paper Height as 11". And, if you wanted to create a Custom 1/2 Fold Greeting Card Stock for A7 greeting card paper (which is 7" x 10" UNFOLDED and 5" x 7" folded), you would set the Paper Width as 7.0" and the Paper Height as 10".

If Paper 'Width' is set to the actual 'length' (longest side) of the paper and Paper 'Height' is set to the actual 'width' (shortest side) of the paper, the Custom Paper Stock that is created will not display correctly on the workspace.

Using the custom paper stock:

After creating a Custom Paper Stock in the Custom Paper Wizard, it is necessary to select that Custom Paper Stock. This can be done in two ways:

1. If you want to start with a blank project, select the 'Start From Scratch' option on the Project Picker. At some point in the project selection process, you will see a list of project types to select from. The Custom Paper Stock you previously created in the Custom Paper Wizard should be included in that list. So, all you would have to do is to click on that Custom Paper Stock to select it.

2. If you want to start with a pre-designed project, select the 'Customize a QuickStart Layout' option then open any pre-designed project that matches the Category of the Custom Paper Stock you created.

When the project is open on the workspace, select 'Edit' in the menubar, then select the 'Choose Stock' option in the menu that drops down. The exact name of the 'Choose Stock' option you see in the Edit menu will depend upon which pre-designed project you opened. For example, if you opened a pre-designed Label project, you would see 'Choose Label Stock' in the Edit menu that drops down. And, if you opened a pre-designed Half-Fold Greeting Card, you would see 'Choose Half-Fold Card Stock' in the Edit menu that drops down.

After you select the 'Choose Stock' open, a window will open which lists all of the available card stocks. The Custom Paper Stock you previously created in the Custom Paper Wizard should be included in that list. So, all you would have to do is to click on that Custom Paper Stock to select it.

NOTE: If the Custom Paper Stock you previously created in the Custom Paper Wizard does not appear in the list of available paper stock for the project, try this:

1. Verify that your Custom Paper Stock was added to the correct Category.

a. Launch the program.
b. Click the 'Tools' menu, choose 'Custom Paper Wizard', then choose 'Edit Custom' Paper.
c. Select the desired Category, then click Next.
d. Verify that your recently created Custom Paper Stock is visible in the list that appears. If your Custom Paper Stock does not appear, you will need to re-create it.

2. If your Custom Paper Stock does appear in the list, but does not appear when attempting to create a project, close Print Shop then launch Print Shop again. Your Custom Paper Stock should then be visible.

Custom Label Types/Label Functions:

When you create or edit Custom Label Stocks in the Custom Paper Wizard, it is extremely important to make sure that you select the desired 'Label Function'. That selection should be made on the same window in the Custom Paper Wizard where you select the Label Type (Rectangular/Square, Round/Ellipse, CD, etc.). At the bottom of that window, click on the down arrow below 'Select Label Function:', then select the desired Label Function from this list (CD & Media Labels, File Folders, Address & Shipping Labels, Other, Stickers).

Then, when you open either a 'Start From Scratch' or 'Customize a QuickStart Layout' Label project from the Project Picker, be sure to click on the down arrow below 'Select Label Type' and select the same Label Function that you selected when you created the Custom Label Paper.

If the Label Type that you select on the Project Picker does not match the Label Function you selected when you created the Custom Label Stock, you will not see that Custom Label Stock in the list.
