Every time I open Address Book it opens the "Welcome Screen" even though I check the box to have it not shown. Then it shows the "Tips" even though I check to have it not shown. Then it requires me to search for the ADBOOK file. It used to open immediately to the Address Book on opening, but no longer does. Can anyone tell me how have the Welcome Screen and Tips honor my request to be skipped and open the ADBOOK file?

By default, those screens are checked. You need to uncheck them and click OK. To be sure, I also closed the program. I just did it now to confirm it works.

If you are using Win8, rather than Win7, I can't be sure it acts the same.

Thanks for writing Ellengard. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Yes, every time I open Address Book I uncheck the welcome screen, and uncheck the tips screen. The program just won't take no for an answer. Now the interesting thing is: My Windows profile must have been corrupted in some way since several of my programs (eg Nuance Paper Port Professional and Dragon Nat Speaking,) were acting strangely. In a new Windows profile they now act fine. Address Book, which I have used since Parson's Technology days, however worked correctly in the old profile. I use it so frequently I keep an icon on my taskbar. On the old profile when I open Address Book it opens to my last saved file, with the settings (column order and sort order.) On the new profile however it always opens with the welcome screen and has me search for the file. When I open it all the data is there but it always opens to the program defaults, not to my settings. In order to find anything I've got to re-establish my settings each time I open it. Granted that's only once a day, but it's still bothersome. Can you think of any way to have the program follow my instructions?
Paul

Some users will need to right click on the program shortcut and select Run As Adminstrator in order for the changes such as dont show tips to take effect. Program access issues and data saving of options can be a bit iffy under Windows 7 64 Bit.
