receive error message after windows 8.1 maintenance

Games was working fine on Windows 8.1. In late Sept 2014 I installed maintenance to windows and now receive "This application is not compatible with the installed operating system.
Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better." I do have the patch installed, but it doesn't help on this problem. Any ideas?

While some of our customers have been able to run older products on Windows 8.1 , we can't guarantee the proper operation of the product. If you are receiving this
error message, you can try to go to the control panel and go under Programs and Features and remove it from your computer and install the game again.

If that does not work then you are out of luck for this program.

The minimum system requirements for this game is as follows :

Windows® 2000 SP4/XP (Home & Pro) SP2/Vista™¹, Pentium® 266 MHz processor or faster (800 MHz processor for Vista), 16 MB RAM (64 MB for Windows XP, 512 MB RAM for Vista), 1 GB Hard Disk Space, DVD-ROM drive, 800x600 @ 16 bit color. Macintosh® OS X 10.4.10, G3, G4, G5 or Intel Core Duo processor, 600 MHz or higher, 256 MB RAM, DVD-ROM drive, 32MB VRAM (ATI Rage cards not supported), 1 GB hard drive space. ¹Administrator privileges are required to properly install the program on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista

You may wish to consider purchasing our Hoyle 2012 or 2013 titles for full compatibility with Windows 8.

I just wanted to add, I just tested our DVD Version of the Hoyle Card Games 2008 product (Original copy with copy protection) and it worked on our lab computer with no issues. I did have problems running the Hoyle Miami Solitaire game included with this game however.

(Lab computer has 8.1 with all updates)
