Print Shop Premier Edition won't recognize HP ENVY 4500 - 2/6/2014 3:42:06 PM    Peter F   Posts: 2 Joined: 2/6/2014 Status: offline I have a large number of files (Projects) created using Print Shop Premier Edition V.5, a 1997 version of Print Shop. I'm running Windaows Vista Home Premiun with SP2. The software still works, i.e. I can create new projects with it and can modify existing ones. My problem is that I finally had to replace my former printer, an HP1600, with a new HP ENVY 4500, and it won't recognize the old Print Shop Project (.PDS) files. When I open one and try to print it, I get an error message saying "A general error has occurred...". I've restarted my computer and re-installed the software (having first deleted it) as the error message suggests, but the problem remains. I've purchased and installed Print Shop Deluxe version 3.5.2, but unfortuately it, won't recognize the old .PDS files. The old projects of mine represent many hours of work that I'd hate to lose. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Post #: 1

Yes, I do believe those two things will not be compatible, even with a printer emulator. The workaround is to export your Print Shop project to a standard format that your new printer would have no trouble printing i.e. JPG or PDF. v5 is so old, I can't remember if it has the export to JPG or save as PDF features. If it does not, you can download the free PDF writer at http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp (in reply to Peter F) Post #: 2

If you ever update your operating system, v5 won't run and you will lose access to all your projects. While Vista is still running fine, start making JPG files from your projects. Do not include any text that would require future editing, as you won't be able to remove text from a JPG. I took your advice and downloaded CutePDF Writer and it works! If it weren't for your help, I would have had no idea how to solve this problem. And if you have any questions about v3.5, just jump over to that forum and make a new post. The best advice I can give about v3.5 is to approach it as a new product and don't compare it to v5.
