Mass Change of Categories - 2/28/2014 1:51:01 PM    bkantor@aol.com   Posts: 11 Joined: 2/28/2014 Status: offline I just imported all of my CC2 files (yes, I said Calendar Creator 2!!!) into Calendar Creator Deluxe v12. After the import, I have 1900 entries in one category and need to change them to a different category. Is there a way to change the category en mass-- i.e., how do I select these 1900 events from the event list and change them all at once to the new category. I see how I can change them one at time, however, this will take a lifetime to do one-at-a-time. Is there a way to do a bulk category reassignment? Post #: 1

From the menu, choose Events, then Categories. Find the category that applies to all the events. Double-click the text portion of the event, and you will see it change to an editable field. Simply change the text to what you would like it to read. Before you do so, you should copy the name of the Category that attached to all the events (probably "General"?), so you can re-create a Category with that name. "General" is the default assigned to a new event, so you'll want that in your group of Categories. With any global operation, you'd do well to back up your calendar, or save a copy with a different name, before starting. _____________________________ David (in reply to bkantor@aol.com) Post #: 2

Let me provide more details. When I imported from CC2, all of my events that imported now have a start and end time that were not there previously in CC2. I don't want the start and end times in my new CC12 calendar either. With some other calendars that I imported (which had less than 75 entries), I fixed the problem simply by going into the category to which my events were imported (e.g. work events) and selecting the “No time” option (To be very specific, I selected "Events" from the Menu Bar and then "Categories." I then highlighted the “Work Events” category and clicked on the "Event Properties" button. Once in the dialog, I selected the "No Time" check box). Once I did this, I hoped that all my events would no longer have the start/end times on them, but the times were still there. So I then went into the window that shows a list of all 75 of my events and re-selected the SAME category (i.e., work events). By re-selecting the same category the new event properties were applied and the start and end times went away. This worked well and was tolerable only because I had less than 75 entries. In one of my calendars that I imported though, I have over 1900 events and it would take forever to use the process I described above. Therefore, I was hoping there is some way to remove the time periods off all 1900 entries without having to use the laborious process above. Any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks! You would export all the events to a CSV file, and import that into Excel or another spreadsheet program, where you can manipulate the text. You could define a new Category, and copy it to all the cells for Category. You would want to be sure that the new Category exists in Calendar Creator when you go to import. The Category in Calendar Creator should have the properties set before hand, I would assume. There were a few tips I gave on importing in another post, here: http://forums.encoreusa.com/fb.asp?m=43569 It's usually important that there be no null fields when you are importing, since that's something that can often throw off data exchanges. You'd have to be aware that this process will strip any formatting you may have done to events. You'll be exchanging basic data only. You can assume that this will take some trial and error, and may not work for reasons I can't foresee. If you decide to attempt it, of course, don't use your original calendar, and do everything in temporary calendars. I selected an empty cell, right clicked and selected the properties options. In the "Set Properties of" drop down, I selected the "Cell" option. I then clicked on the Miscellaneous tab and deselected start time and end time. When I did this, the start and end times went away on all 1900 events. I assume that will remove time from events where you may want a time display, but with luck that's not an issue. If you're going to use the calendar for future events where you'll want some to have the times displayed, and others not, experiment with adding new events, and also modifying categories.
