eagletattoo -> No sound in card games (12/17/2009 7:13:50 PM)

I have tried uninstalling just the card game and reinstalling, repairing it, modifing it, and uninstalling all the programs and reinstalling them and nothing works. It was working fine and then quit.

Hi eagletattoo,

Since the program was working fine and then quit, it is very unlikely that the problem was caused by the Hoyle Card Games 2005 program. It is much more likely that something which changed on your computer caused the problem.

For example, your sound card driver might have been corrupted. So, the first thing you'll want to do is to go to your sound card manufacturer's web site to download and install the most current driver for your Operating System.

It is also possible that the problem was caused by a Windows update or some other update. And, that would be especially true if you have been running Hoyle Card Games 2005 on Vista or Windows 7 or on any 64-bit Operating System - because Hoyle Card Games 2005 is designed for only these Operating Systems - Windows® 98SE/ME/2000 SP4/XP SP1. And, Hoyle products are NOT designed to be run on 64-bit Operating Systems.

Since you mentioned uninstalling & reinstalling all of the programs, I will have to assume that you are referring to other Hoyle programs that you own.

However, since you said that you repaired and modified Hoyle Card Games 2005 - which is not recommended as part of normal troubleshooting procedures - you could have very easily corrupted lots of things. So, in order to wipe out any corruption you might have caused, and to make sure your video card driver is properly updated, my recommendation would be that you follow Steps A thru D below:

A. Click on this link

Updating Video Card Driver: 2000/XP/Vista/7/Mac OS X 10.4.0 and later

then follow the directions in that FAQ for updating your video card driver.

B. Click on this link

Uninstalling Software: Thoroughly & Safely

then follow the directions in that FAQ for uninstalling all Hoyle programs that you uninstalled and reinstalled previously.

To make sure that all remnants of the program have been removed, it is VERY important to follow ALL directions in that FAQ for searching the hard drive. It is also VERY important to keep in mind that the registry should NOT be edited manually to remove remnants of the program. Instead, the registry should be cleaned ONLY by performing Step #4 in the "Computer Cleanup on WinXP & WinVista" FAQ recommended below.

C. Click on this link

Computer Cleanup on WinXP, WinVista & Win7

then follow the directions in that FAQ.

To make sure that all problems have been found, it is VERY important to perform ALL 7 steps. It is also very important to NOT perform any procedures that are not recommended in this FAQ.

D. Click on this link

'Clean' Install on Win98/Me/XP/2000/Vista/Win7

then follow the directions in that to reinstall all Hoyle programs.
