nancy1965 -> Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/3/2016 11:32:19 PM)

I have two questions... I was considering purchasing the 4.0 version of Print Shop as I may be upgrading to windows 10. I have thousands of projects that I have done using 23.1 deluxe.

1. I read on the technical support page the following "The older files will become rasterized. This means that some objects will become permanent parts of your project and cannot be edited." Can someone elaborate a little more on this? Does that mean that the graphics will not be as clear as they were in the original project? Also, does it mean that any text that I had included will be permanently embedded into the projects? I need all of the text to be editable.

2. Is there an easy way to just import all of my projects at once into the new 4.0 version upon installation like you could do in previous versions?

Thank you in advance.

Some objects may be permanently merged together. Text boxes stay editable. Most special effects will not transfer over.

Unfortunately, no. Each project can be opened only one at a time. See this post for actual examples of how projects "change" when opened in verson 3.5 and 4.0

Thanks for the info.! With that said, I'm going to keep my current version 23.1 and hope for the best if I decide to upgrade to windows 10. From the couple of samples that I looked at, it looks like some resolution was lost from original projects when converting and I don't want that. I have a small business and need my projects to look top notch. Hopefully, the next version of The Print Shop will be different and let us import our projects into the new program with ease again and no rastorizing of original projects. If that was the case now, I would upgrade to the 4.0 version so I could have a smoother transition to windows 10.

I don't think that is going to happen, so if there are graphics from v23.1 you really want to keep, start exporting them as high-res JPGs which can be used in any graphics program on all operating systems.

Ellen,
That's great advice but it would be extremely time consuming since I have so many projects. I have one other idea... What about the 3.5 version of The Print Shop? Would I be able to use that on Windows 10 and import all of my projects from 23.1 deluxe without them being rasterized?

Thank you,
Nancy

ellengard -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 7:43:54 PM)

Version 4.0 is the improved version 3.5. Version 3.5 is the improved version 3.0.

Version 23.1 was the last of its kind. There are no updates to it. Version 3.0 was an entirely "new, from the ground up" program, designed to be compatible with the newer Windows operation systems, not v23.1. All new Print Shop programs are updates from v3.0. Opening older projects in v4.0 has not changed since v3.0.

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 7:51:22 PM)

That's good to know. I have just downloaded windows 10 on my laptop (I have 2 computers). I had uninstalled The Print Shop 23.1 before I downloaded per the instructions on one of these boards to have the best chance of being able to run 23.1 Deluxe on it. I will be re-installing it on there and I am really hoping that it works without any glitches. I absolutely love that version and that is what I'm used to. If you have any input on that, let me know. Otherwise, thank you for your help!

Nancy

ellengard -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 9:40:13 PM)

You're welcome, Nancy! I hope v23.1 will run on Win10. I'm still hanging onto Win7.

I find that printing directly from v23.1 produces sharper images than printing directly from v4.0. However, since I get most of my color printing done professionally via PDF upload, I have to use other programs that allow me to create a PDF with embedded fonts. So I will often create the graphical layout in Print Shop and export as JPG. I import the JPG to MS Word or Serif PagePlus, add my text, then print to PDF.

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 9:49:41 PM)

I'm very happy with windows 7 as well but my main computer is old and is not running the best so I'm just afraid that I may have to replace it sooner rather than later and will be stuck with windows 10 so I want to be prepared just in case.
By the way, I love your blog and publishing tips!

Thanks again for all of your help!
Nancy

Mr C -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 9:57:43 PM)

It sounds as tho we might have the same problem! My best advise for you is to save "ALL" of your projects as pictures in jpeg format. I never bought version 23.1 but i did have ver 23. My projects cannot be imported into the new 4.0 version.
Pictures do import but the text cannot be edited by any means. I'm now having to learn this new program that works nothing like my older one. Resizing my projects is giving me a real headache!! Good luck!!

Thank you! I hope my blog articles help show people the things v3.5/4.0 can do. I'm always open to suggestions for new blog topics.

Text boxes should convert over as new editable text boxes. If they did not, it could be that the project was too complicated so things got rasterized.

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/7/2016 11:23:20 PM)

I've started to export some of my files to high resolution JPEGs. I have thousands of files so it's going to be an ongoing project that I'll probably never finish. I'm thinking now that my best bet will be to look for a NEW windows 7 computer if there is such a thing now. In the meantime, mine is still working but it is very slow and noisy. I'm just afraid it's gonna die. I do have a laptop too that I just installed the Windows 10 on but I'm having trouble printing off of it wirelessly (nothing to do with Print Shop program). I'll ask my son for help with that as he is computer savvy or I'll contact my printer company. With that said, as of right now I do not know how version 23.1 is going to respond to windows 10 but it is installed and all my projects are opening up fine.

JasonC -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/8/2016 12:52:04 PM)

PS 23.1 will work on Windows 10 but we have special instructions in order for it to work.

Mr C -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/8/2016 10:05:45 PM)

I've just repackaged the print shop 4.0 & sending it back for replacement of 23.1 version!
This new 4.0 is crap to me! Everything is hidden & if it is so great & new, why doesn't it allow for older projects importing????

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/8/2016 10:08:08 PM)

That's good to know Mr C. As the saying goes, why fix something if it's not broken. I love version 23.1 and want to use it as long as I possibly can.

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/16/2016 5:43:48 PM)

Hi again,

One last question... Is it possible to run two different versions of The Print Shop on the same computer? I was thinking that I could order the new 4.0 version for Windows 10 if I get a new computer and also install 23.1 deluxe so I could use that just to export high resolution jpegs as needed for the 4.0 version. I would save the high resolution jpegs and then open them up in 4.0.

Thanks!

ellengard -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/16/2016 6:26:18 PM)

Yes, you can run both versions because they share nothing except the marketing brand.

nancy1965 -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/16/2016 6:27:56 PM)

That's great news! Then I can just export files as needed.

Thank you very much!
Nancy

nmattheis -> RE: Importing projects from Print Shop 23.1 (3/21/2016 3:09:06 PM)

I am having the same issues. I thought an UPGRADE of PrintShop (4.0 from 23.1), which I have used several versions for years, would actually be an upgrade as normal. I just installed it and am hardly able to make a layout. I can't find the different Avery Labels I use, it only gives a few options or you have to created you own somehow. I can't open anything from my PrintShop 23.1 and I need to. BUT....I tried to make a project, just to try it out, and the print is AWFUL.

Does anyone know of a good upgrade to PrintShop that would work? I still have 23.1 in my computer, but the Art Disk is getting to where my computer won't read it all the time.

Help, Nancy
