This is a quick look at how some projects created in version 23 will appear when they are opened in version 3.5 In the following pictures, version 23 is on the left; version 3.5 is on the right.

Here is a SIG project. It appears pretty much unaltered. Although the shadowing on the headline did not convert over, re-adding the shadow in v3.5 is simple. Colors seem slightly brighter, but I don't know if this happens all the time.

The layout of the HCR project opens correctly (half-fold card). Although the headline shape did not convert over, it is easy to re-apply the headline shape in v3.5. The transparent edges which were applied in v23's Photo Workshop, did not convert over. When special effects with transparency are applied in v23, it is a very good idea to export your project as high-res JPG, thus "preserving the transparent effect". Delete any text you do not want to be permanent, before you export your old project as JPG. You can import the JPG into any v3.5 project and then add updated text.

A typical LBL project will open in v3.5, but will print as a single label in the middle of the sheet of paper. A solution is to group all the elements in that single label, then copy/paste that group into a new 3.5 label project which will then auto-fill an entire sheet of labels.

This isn't as bad as it looks . If I had used simple text boxes, those would have been fine. I wanted to see how a table would convert over. It actually worked OK. I originally applied text formatting to make the words go to the bottom of the cells. They "defaulted" to the top. Easy fix.

This demonstration shows in particular, that photo effects where any part of the background is made transparent or semi-transparent, will not convert over. However many of the photo filters such as the paint effect (as well as colorization, warp & distort, etc.) do survive the conversion.

Any PNG and GIF files with transparent areas are supported in v3.5
so if your old project has them, they will appear correctly in v3.5.

Good to know: v3.5 supports PNG files with semi-transparent areas; v23 does not. In v23, a PNG's semi-transparent areas become opaque.
See how much better this overlay PNG file is handled in The Print Shop 3.5.
