Repeat Rules - 6/21/2007 10:08:43 PM    Ida   Posts: 8 Joined: 3/30/2005 Status: offline I am so frustrated with this repeat rules thing. I HAD all of them assigned and tryed every month of my calendar (advanced to 2008 for each month) and all of the info I had assigned repeat rules to repeated for the new year just as I thought it should. I was so happy. So after a few months I, just for the heck of it, went back in and tryed this and all of my repeat rules were gone, resulting in the fact that I have nothing for 2008 or beyond. I know you're wondering if I had saved and I had, because I have done this before, just gone back in and "checked." Post #: 1

RE: Repeat Rules - 6/21/2007 10:51:15 PM    Brandy redux Posts: 2376 Joined: 2/7/2007 Status: offline Hi Ida, Where you said, "I know you're wondering if I had saved," I'm pretty sure you did save - because Calendar Creator will always display a message reminding you to save if you try to close a calendar that has been changed but hasn't been saved. And, I know for certain that Calendar Creator will display that reminder message if you change a repeat rule but don't manually save the calendar before you try to close it. I have been using the same Calendar Creator file for more than 5 years. And, in all that time, I have never experienced a problem with the repeat rules (when I set a repeat rule, I ALWAYS set that repeat rule 10-20 years in the future). So, I'm afraid I don't have any quick and easy explanation/solution for your problem. I do, though, have an idea what went wrong. You said in your message that you "advanced to 2008". I suspect that what happened was that you may not have advanced far enough. As an example, imagine (if you will) that you want to set a repeat date for a Birthday that occurs on June 20. Then, when you set that birthday to repeat until 2008, you select a day earlier than June 20 in Step 5 below (June 1, for example). What will happen is that the Birthday will repeat ONLY until June 1, 2008. And, since the Birthday is actually on June 20, that Birthday will not display in the calendar for 2008. So, you must always be sure that the Repeat Rule is set to the actual date of the event. You should be able to see what I mean if you will double-click on any event that is not repeating correctly. When the Modify Event window opens, compare the Start Date of that event to the Repeat Until date of that event. If the Month AND Day in the Start Date is LATER than the Month AND Day in the Repeat Until date, that event will not repeat for the Year that is in the Repeat Until date. So, if the repeat rules are truly not repeating far enough into the future for you, I'm afraid there's only one thing you can do - you will have to reset the repeat rules. As you may already know, the quickest way to set repeat rules is to: 1. Double-click an event (to open the Modify Event window) 2. Make sure there is a dot in the circle next to 'Repeat Until' 3. Click on the 'Repeat Until' box with the 3 periods (...) to open the calendar 4. When the calendar opens, click on the >> button several times to move the repeat rule ahead several years. 5. Click on the Month AND Day when that event should be displayed on the calendar. This will cause the calendar to close. 6. Also what about the boxes for "Show Start Time" and "Show End Time" and "Do not use Time?" I ignored these places before. I am still paranoid about losing my settings again because so far the only thing I did differently since talking with you is that I clicked on the 'Repeat Until' box to open the calendar (and then followed steps 4, 5, and 6 from you) instead of what I did originally; I simply entered the 2020 date in the 'Repeat Until' box. It doesn't seem like I REALLY did anything different. And it still baffles me that I HAD the settings working for several months until one day they were gone. I do not mean to belabor this. It is very normal for people to ask many questions about Calendar Creator - because Calendar Creator is sometimes quite tricky to learn. The only time you ever need to use, or even think about, "Start Time and "End Time" and "Show Start Time" and "Show End Time" is when you want to set up events, such as appointments, that happen at specific Start Times and End Times. And, the only purpose of the "Do not use Time?" option is for choosing whether or not the Start Time and End Time of the event is displayed on the calendar.
