Mavis Beacon 9 Crashing and Freezing

Installed on a XP pc on a network

Student loads mavis beacon but crashes. Are there any known fixes or patches that i can apply. I think it may be permission based

Hi ellisp,

I suspect that the problem you are experiencing might be due to the fact that Mavis Beacon 9 might not be compatible with WinXP.

The Minimum System Requirements for Mavis Beacon 9 list only these Operating Systems

* Windows® 3.1, 95 or 98
* Windows® NT 3.51 or higher

It might be possible, though, for you to use the Compatibility Wizard to run Mavis Beacon 9 in Win 98 mode. Click on this link

Run Older Programs on Windows XP

for more information about that.

And, there is one other possibility that might be relevant to your problem. Even though you said that you installed Mavis Beacon 9 on a network, you did not say that you are using the actual Network version of Mavis Beacon 9. If you are, instead, using the stand-alone version of Mavis Beacon 9, you will have to keep in mind that 1) the stand-alone version is not written to use network resources and 2) the CD-ROM is required to be in the drive after installing the stand-alone version.
