Windows 7 Hang-up Fix?

I loaded our purchased cd-rom version of "Rocket Bowl" on my young son's new laptop which runs on Windows 7. In the "Property" tab of the game's icon, I changed the compatibility to "Windows XP service pack 3" and, for the most part, the game runs well. However, the game does hang up or act strangely from time to time during the course of playing - none of which happens on Mom & Dad's home computer which has Windows XP service pack 3 operating system. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix/permanently remove hang-ups for this game in Windows 7? Thank you so much!

Hi FCMom,

Even though Rocket Bowl runs correctly on your Mom & Dad's Windows XP Service Pack 3 Operating System, there should be no need to use Compatibility Mode to set Rocket Bowl to "Windows XP service pack 3" on your Windows 7 Operating System - for 2 reasons:

1. Since Windows Vista is listed in the Minimum System Requirements for Rocket Bowl, using Compatibility Mode to set Rocket Bowl to "Windows XP service pack 3" on your Windows 7 Operating System would, in effect, be a step backwards.

2. With Windows 7, there is a better option than using the standard Compatibility Mode.

So, the first thing that I would recommend is that you perform the following steps:

A. Right click on the shortcut which starts the Rocket Bowl program.

B. When the menu pops up, click on the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option.

C. When the window opens, click on the 'Try Recommended Settings' option. Follow through with all recommended steps for fixing the problem. Make a note of the EXACT (word-for-word) text of any messages you receive about any possible incompatibilities.

If the Troubleshoot Compatibility option does not solve your problem, it is possible that the problem might be the result of an outdated or corrupt video card driver. So, the next thing that I would recommend is that you click on the link below

then follow the directions in that FAQ for updating your video card driver.

If updating your video card driver does not solve your problem, it is possible that Rocket Bowl is simply not compatible with Windows 7, especially if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 - because Rocket Bowl was designed to run on 32-bit Operating Systems.

Since it is very likely that your Mom & Dad's Windows XP Service Pack 3 Operating System is a 32-bit Operating System, and, it is also very likely that your Windows 7 Operating System is a 64-bit Operating System, what works on your Mom & Dad's Operating System will not always work on your Operating System.

Because of the way the graphics drivers are in Windows 7 , some older programs have trouble with the ways game run. I knew about this issue on Windows 7 because it happens to me , the only way to solve this is to go into the main menu, switch your resolution to 640x480 and choose low detail
