My computer froze while I was updating a Calendar project...

I think your project got corrupted which is the worst thing that can happen when you don't have a backup file.

If the file got corrupted, I know of no way to retrieve it. I can only advise you on how to avoid this in the future. Calendar projects can get horrendously large and complex, with multiple layers, high-res photos and special effects. This is true with any program, not just PrintMaster. The larger and more complex the project, the more likely the program will crash.

When I do a calendar project, I start with 12 separate sign projects. Each one is customized with graphics for a particular month. I export each project as high-res JPG. After I have my 12 JPGs, I import each one into my calendar project. This keeps my calendar project file size under control, and still maintains high print quality. Most importantly, it minimizes the total number of individual items and special effects in one project, thereby drastically reducing the chance of freezing the program.

In programs like Adobe Photo Shop, this is achieved by merging/flattening layers.

If you are not in the habit of creating back up files, you can do "save as" (e.g. add a revision number) rather than just "save". That way, if the computer freezes during the "save as", it won't overwrite and corrupt your previous file.

thanks so much for that information...I will definitely use that for future projects. But I have to tell you, I'm so excited...a miracle occurred!! I was poking around in the folder where my corrupted file is and there was another file with the same name only it had an underscore as the first character. I opened that file with Printmaster and there was my calendar!!! So I guess Printmaster takes a backup...who knew?? Thanks again for your information...I appreciate it.

That is really great news! Thank you for providing that info. I did not know that PrintMaster did that.

Just in case, make a couple of extra copies of that backup. If the file is very large and complex, adding more pictures and edits may freeze the computer again. If this happens, post back and I can advise you on how to split your project into two smaller projects.
