When the 'Can't Create Directory...' error message is in a language other than English, and the error message reads something like this

"Can't create directory C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows® User Name]\Configuration local\Datos de programa\...."

this issue occurs because the Broderbund program you are attempting to install was created for the English release of Windows® and will not install and function properly on versions of Windows® created for other languages.

There is, unfortunately, no fix for this problem - other than to install the software on an English release of Windows.

**********

When the 'Can't Create Directory...' error message reads something like this

"Can't create the directory

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Broderbund Software\Print\PrintMaster" (for WinXP)

or

"Can't create the directory

C:\ProgramData\Broderbund Software\Print\PrintMaster" (for WinVista & Windows 7)

this occurs because your computer has not established ownership of the folder and its contents. By establishing an owner it should correct the issue.

The method listed below can be used to establish ownership of the folder and its contents. However, performing the following steps could be harmful to your computer if done incorrectly. So, if you do not understand these instructions, please consult a licensed computer technician. Furthermore, it is extremely important to keep in mind that Encore is NOT responsible for ANY damage to the files or operating system that might result from any attempts to use this method to fix the problem.

For WinXP

Step 1: Start in Safe Mode

* Boot your computer into Safe Mode. (This can be done by pressing F8 repeatedly while the computer is restarting, then selecting 'Safe Mode'.)
* If more than one Operating System is listed for Safe Mode, select your Operating System
* Select the account 'Administrator'.
* A pop up window will appear saying that Windows is running in Safe Mode. Click YES to continue in Safe Mode.

Note: For further instructions on how to boot into Safe Mode, please consult your computer’s User Manual.

* Click 'Start'
* Click 'My Computer'
* Double Click the C:\ Drive
* Double Click 'Documents and Settings'
* Double Click 'All Users'
* Double Click 'Application Data' (This folder may be hidden. So, if you do not see this folder, follow the directions below to view that hidden folder.)

    + Click 'Tools'
    + Click 'Folder Options'
    + Click the 'View' tab
    + Scroll down to 'Hidden Files and Folders'
    + Click 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
    + Click 'OK'

Step 3: Change ownership of the Broderbund Software folder

* Right Click 'Broderbund Software'
* Left click 'Properties'
* Uncheck 'Read Only'
* Click 'Apply'
* A window will pop up. Click the bubble that says 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files'.
* Click 'OK'
* Click on the 'Security' tab
* Click on the 'Advanced' button (Doing this will open a new window.)
* Click the 'Owner' tab
* Click on the user called 'Administrators' (make sure you choose the plural version)
* Check the box that says 'Replace owner on sub containers and objects'.
* Click 'Apply'
* Click 'OK' to all the remaining Settings windows.
