Using PS 23.1, Windows 8.1, and MS FrontPage 2000.
I have an operating website that was built with FontPage but suddenly, my Frontpage app. is working very badly and there is little or no online advise anymore for FP so I am considering re-building my present website with PS and giving up Frontpage.
I am not familiar with any of the Web page functions in PS and am wonder how much of the existing code in my current FP website can be imported or used in the PS 23.1 app.
In an effort to begin making a webpage, I am seeing serious difficulties building a simple page with a few thumbnail images in the PS app. I'd like to end up with webpages like I already have but it looks quite difficult here at PS to make anything like I am already using at: www.rainbowsedgefineart.com.
One question is: Can any of the HTML code from my existing webpages be used in PS or will I need to build the whole site from scratch?

None of your existing code can be used in PS web page project because it cannot import HTML.

FrontPage was replaced with Microsoft Expression. Expression Web is available as a free download from the Microsoft Download Center.

I have taken a look at your website, and although it could be rebuilt with PS, its limited functions would require you to make do with fewer features. i.e. no tables, no lists, fixed page height, no page anchors, no HTML code snippets, no TITLE/META/H1/H2/P tags (therefore no SEO).

All of these things would have to be coded in, outside the scope of PS which means that PS can't save any of it. Any time you wish to make updates to your web site with the program, you would need to manually add back all the extra code.

Another option is to update the HTML code directly with a text editor such as NotePad. I see this as a real possibility for making text revisions and adding a new image. However, it would not be a method for doing a major redesign.

Status: offline 		You should try WebPlus Starter Edition. Serif offers a free download of it on their website after registration.

It has some limited features but you can import sites. And do some work arounds for the limited features.

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. I checked out Expression Web - it's not free! It's affordable though from Ebay if I decide to abandon FP.

I intended to copy my existing FP code into Notepad then over to PS but I would definitely need real long pages and changing the tables to text boxes is not a big issue but rather exhausting if I want to present my site pretty much as it is now. I checked out the Serif: WebPlus BUT, their free version only allows me to create 5 PAGES!! (or upgrade for more pages.}

Status: offline 		Thanks for the lead, Jason. I downloaded the WebPlus then found out I can only make 5 PAGES in the free version so I uninstalled it.

It is free - I got it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/eng/

Since it is Microsoft, it should import the HTML files created in FrontPage easily.

Ellen, please explain more about the "clean re-install" thing. LOL, I did something like that long ago but forgot the steps.

Status: offline 		I got your email saying that re-installing FrontPage didn't correct its behavior. Possibly the program is not compatible with Win 8.1.
