When you reinstall any newer download of any Broderbund/Encore/Hoyle product, the first time you open that product you might receive this error message: "A problem was detected with your license file. Would you like to recover now?" There are several Encore Technical Notes which address this issue (such as this one here) http://support.encore.com/technicalsupport/kb.aspx?kb_id=1458&product_id=2827 and which instruct you to request an Activation Code. However, I have discovered that is sometimes possible to work around that problem by simply clicking on "NEXT", proceeding to the point where you are instructed to enter the Activation Code, then entering the unlock code which was provided in the original download email. However, if entering the unlock code doesn't work, or if you can't find your unlock code, you will need to request an Activation Code.
