Mammoth12 -> Printmaster 18.1 Symbols (1/7/2011 9:09:53 PM)

I have used Printmaster for years and now I just went from 18 to 18.1 so that I would not have functionality issues with Windows 7 on my new pc. I went with 18.1 so that I could use all of my old projects. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find some of the same symbols in 18.1 that were available in 18. I always used the registered trademark symbol that has an R with a circle around it, but that symbol does not show in the symbol list. Does anyone have any ideas??

Hi Mammoth12,

You are referring to the Symbols that are selected by clicking on 'Add' in the menubar, then selecting 'Symbol' in the menu that drops down - correct?

On both my PrintMaster 16 and PrintMaster 18.1 on my Windows 7 computer, the 'Registered' trademark symbol is in exactly the same place - in the bottom row of symbols - to the right of the 'Copyright' symbols and to the left of the 'Trademark' symbols.

Mine looks different than yours.

How can I send you the list of symbols that I have? Just like you did? The copyright and trademarks are not in mine either. Not on any of the 14 lines of symbols.

Hi Mammoth12,

Since what you see looks different than what I see, that would indicate that you are experiencing a display issue. And, the recommended solution for a display issue is to click on the link below

http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=27150&mpage=1&key=%E6%A8%8E

then follow the directions in that FAQ for updating your video card driver.

While I would be more than happy to describe how you could send a list of symbols you are seeing, seeing the symbols would not tell me what is causing your problem. And, if you are not familiar with working with screen shots - which are required to display images such as the one I displayed above - it it possible that any screen shot you would create would be larger than the 200k limit for this forum.

So, what I would recommend is that you follow the directions in the FAQ mentioned above for updating your video card driver. Then, if updating your video card driver does not solve the problem, please post back here and let me know.

When adding symbols, the program is supposed to access the PressWriter Symbols font. If you don't have that font installed or that font has been moved, that could explain why you are not seeing the PressWriter characters.

What font name shows on the toolbar when you try to add a symbol?

Hi Mammoth12,

I am in receipt of the file you sent to me by private email; and, I have uploaded it below

That's the wingdings font.

One Additional Thought Mammoth 12,

Since ellengard indicated that your Symbols problem might be the result of your not having the PressWriter Symbols font installed, I have sent you a copy of that font file by email. Please copy that font file to your C:\Window\Fonts folder, then reply back here to let us all know if that solved your problem.

ellengard -> RE: Printmaster 18.1 Symbols (1/7/2011 11:10:42 PM)

Hi Brandy,

Interesting how the program associated the Wingdings font to its Add Symbol function. I wonder if some kind of tweaking of the program files is required after installing PressWriter Symbols font, to change the association from Wingdings to PressWriter Symbols.

As a workaround, I found that copy/paste from a Word doc to a PrintMaster text box can put the Registered Trademark symbol into the project.

In Word, Ctrl-Alt-r is the shortcut key for ® which can then be copy/pasted into PM. Unfortunately, Ctrl-Alt-r doesn't work directly in PM.

However, ALT 0174 does work in PM ®

Based on past experience, my guess would be NO. When programs I've worked with in the past were designed to look for a specific font, I found that they would make substitutions only when the required font was not installed. However, as soon as the required font was installed, the program automatically returned to working as originally designed.
