I have been using my Friday Night Poker on my vista machine for some time. However about a month ago I had no sound. I have uninstalled and reinstalled still no luck. I have sound everywhere else just not on this game. Anyone have any ideas why?

Hi mitchc,

Since the sound worked once on Vista, it should work again. So, there is no logical explanation for your problem, other than that something that changed on your computer has caused the problem. And, if that is the case, you would have to try to determine what has changed. However, you might want to double-check the sound settings in Hoyle Poker Series to make doubly sure that they haven't been accidentally turned OFF.

If you haven't already done so, you might also want to click on this link

Computer Cleanup on WinXP, WinVista & Win7

then follow the directions in that FAQ for performing a computer cleanup.

And, it certainly couldn't hurt to go to your sound card manufacturer's web site to download and install the most current sound card driver for your Operating System. If you find that you are already using the most current driver, it certainly couldn't hurt to uninstall and reinstall that driver - on the offchance that it has become corrupt in some way.

Hoyle Friday Night Poker uses some DLL's for sound which XP included. Since Vista does not include them anymore because of legacy purposes, the game tries to emulate older versions of DirectSound. For the most part it works correctly, but ive experienced some issues where the sound was missing or the characters dont talk. WaveOut emulation is rather iffy as well so the product cant be guaranteed on Vista if its not listed on the box.

TMLFAN4LIFE; Brandy,

Success! I updated the RealTek driver and all is well now. Don't understand why the sound problem was only noticed in the game but anomalies happen. Thanks for the advice and replies.

Mitch
