game won't open - 12/1/2009 5:32:36 PM    cirrusjeff   Posts: 2 Joined: 11/25/2009 Status: offline I am getting a message that Hoyle Puzzle Game . exe has encountered a problem and has to shut down. I am given a temp file for documentation of error but this is greek to me . HELP! Using Win XP Home v2002 SP3. I have plenty of hard drive space and memory. I have tried your fatal error patch and update patch nothing helped. I have the DVD version 14310-DVD v1.0 from Encore. Thanks in advance Jeff P.S. Brandy I posted this under 2007 by mistake. RE: game won't open - 12/1/2009 6:24:34 PM    Brandy redux Posts: 2376 Joined: 2/7/2007 Status: offline Hi Jeff, Since you are using Win XP Home v2002 SP3 with Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008, you should not be experiencing any problems - because Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 should open on a XP Home v2002 SP3 computer without having to install any of the patches. So, what that tells me is that either your Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 installation is corrupt or your computer is not in tip-top shape. And, when that happens, I always recommend the following: A. Click on this link Updating Video Card Driver: 2000/XP/Vista/7/Mac OS X 10.4.0 and later then follow the directions in that Knowledgebase article for updating your video card driver. After updating the video card driver, check the program to see if the problem has been fixed. If it has not been fixed, proceed with the steps below. B. Click on this link Uninstalling Software: Thoroughly & Safely then follow the directions in that FAQ for uninstalling Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008. To make sure that all remnants of the program have been removed, it is VERY important to follow ALL directions in that FAQ for searching the hard drive. It is also VERY important to keep in mind that the registry should NOT be edited manually to remove remnants of the program. Instead, the registry should be cleaned ONLY by performing Step #4 in the "Computer Cleanup on WinXP & WinVista" FAQ recommended below. C. Click on this link Computer Cleanup on WinXP & WinVista then follow the directions in that FAQ. To make sure that all problems have been found, it is VERY important to perform ALL 7 steps. It is also very important to NOT perform any procedures that are not recommended in this FAQ. D. Click on this link 'Clean' Install on Win98/Me/XP/2000/Vista then follow the directions in that FAQ for reinstalling Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008. E. After you have opened Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 the first time (with the DVD still in the drive) - to confirm that it has installed correctly, go to this web site Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games 2008 DVD Patch to install the patch for Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008. However, if your Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008 installed as Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games Classic, it is not necessary to install the patch - because the patch is included with the Classic version. DO NOT download and install the patch for the fatal error - because that patch was released before the final patch was released for Hoyle Puzzle and Board Games 2008.
