I am new to PrintMaster 2012. I have clip art from Dover and want to overlay images in PM so that only the image is imported. Right now, they are .jpg and I tried to save and insert as a .png file, but the "white" around the image still shows. I want to be able to overlay multiple images to create cards...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi rebecca,

*.jpg files do not support transparency. However, both *.png and *.gif files support transparency; and, I am able to use the PM 2012 'Add Photo' option to add both *.png and *.gif files with transparency. However, it is very important to keep in mind that, when PM 2012 sees that a photo which is being opened contains a transparency, PM 2012 will display a message which says this:

"The [name of image] image has transparency. Some of the photo effect options do not work with the transparency parts of images and may cause the transparent areas to turn black. Do you want to continue?"

If you do not receive this message when you attempt to import a photo which you believe contains tranparency, that would indicate that PM 2012 is not seeing that transparency.

As to where you said this:

"Right now, they are .jpg and I tried to save and insert as a .png file."

It is not possible to remove the background image from a *.jpg by simply saving the image as a *.png. Instead, it is necessary to open the *.jpg in a program which offers the option of creating transparent areas, then manually create those transparent areas before saving the image as a *.png. It is not possible to create transparent areas in PM 2012.

Even though I use Paint Shop Pro to create transparent areas, many other programs (including various Photo Shop programs) offer the capability of creating transparent areas.

Thank you! I will try that and if it doesn't work, I will repost.
