I have been using Printshop 3.0 version 3.5 since September 2012. Everything worked fine until in the past month it will not print any projects, including ready made projects. When I go to 'print' or 'print preview' it comes up with an error message " could not render project". Technical support from Encore so far has not been helpful and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. Has anybody else had this problem and if so how do you remedy it?

Have you tried updating your printer drivers?

Thank you ellengard for your suggestion.

Yes my printer drivers are up to date, the printer and computer are both less than 12 months old and have scheduled automatic updates.

I don't know what is interfering with the communication between the program and your printer, but I assume you are able to print from your other programs? If so, here's a work around solution.

Export your project as highest quality, highest resolution JPG. Import that JPG into a different program and print it.

Or use a third party PDF convertor and print your PDF from Adobe Reader. Don't use the Save as PDF in the program - it produces a very blurry image.

Hello Ellen,

Thank you once again for your suggestions. I have tried saving the project as a jpeg and pdf but the same error came up " could not render project" so I suspect it's not a printer problem.

I've been using Printshop 20 from 2006 to 2012 with no problems whatsoever and found it to be a very user-friendly program. My (adult) children bought me Printshop 30 Deluxe for my birthday in August last year and to be quite honest , apart from superior graphics and fonts it is far less user-friendly and slower at selecting clip art pictures than Printshop 20.

I'm so impressed with your advice and genuine interest in my problem I'm wondering if you work for Encore/Broderbund or are you just interested in desktop publishing and enjoy using your knowledge and experience to help others? Whatever the reason it is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Brian

Hello Brian,

No, I don't work for Encore. Got PrintMaster bundled with my first computer (Win 95) and suddenly I had a new hobby! Now I do desktop publishing part-time professionally.

If your OS is Win7, you can run PS 20 on it by following these install instructions:
http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=37937

Your problem with not being able to render a project as JPG, PDF and a print file is definitely a tech problem and it's unfortunate that Encore tech support could not help you. I can suggest running a full anti-virus scan and doing a computer clean up as described here:
http://forums.encoreusa.com/tm.asp?m=23948

I hope that helps. I'm not a tech expert. I mostly answer functionality questions like how to use the program to do mail merging or how to convert a newsletter project for the web.
