All versions of Calendar Creator offer '2 Pages' formats - to allow for the creation of wall calendars that display an image on one sheet of paper and a calendar on another sheet of paper. After printing, the pages are bound on one edge - to allow for flipping. NOTE: The '2 Pages' formats do not allow the facing pictures to be printed borderless. So, if you want to print the facing pictures borderless, the best course of action would be to use option #1 below: Use a different program for creating and printing the Facing Pictures and Cover Page. For stand-alone versions of Calendar Creator, the '2 Pages' formats are 'Wide on 2 Pages' & 'Tall on 2 Pages'. For the versions of Calendar Creator Express that are bundled with some versions of Print Shop, the '2 Pages' formats are 'Horizontal Wall Calendar on 2 Pages' and 'Vertical Wall Calendar on 2 Pages'. When you open Calendar Creator, in order to find the '2 Pages' formats, you must click on either 'Choose a Ready Made Calendar' or 'Create a calendar using the Calendar Wizard' option. DO NOT click on 'Start with a Basic Calendar'. The following points must always be kept in mind when designing and printing any '2 Pages' format: A. All '2 Pages' formats are designed to be printed double-sided - with the image (Facing Picture) printed on one side of the paper and the Calendar printed on the opposite side of the paper. B. The Facing Picture and Calendar which are displayed together on the workspace will be displayed together after the Calendar is printed, bound & hung on the wall. However, the Facing Picture will not be printed on the same sheet of paper as the Calendar. Instead, the Facing Picture will be printed on the opposite side of the paper from the Calendar for the previous month. For example, the Facing Picture for March will be printed on the opposite side of the paper from the Calendar for February. C. When the '2 Pages' format is intended to be bound vertically - with the Facing Picture above the Calendar - the Facing Picture must be printed upside down in relation to the Calendar - so that the edge of the paper where the top of the Facing Picture is printed is the edge of the paper where the bottom of the Calendar is printed on the opposite side of the paper. D. In order to successfully perform either an automatic duplex or a manual duplex of a '2 Pages' layout, a Cover Page must be selected in either File > Page Setup or File > Print Wizard - because the Facing Picture for the month of January must be printed on the opposite side of the paper from the Cover Page. It is not necessary for the Cover Page to have a Cover Page Picture. However, if a Cover Page Picture is desired, that Cover Page Picture must be a*.jpg file. E. The default in all versions of Calendar Creator is to print only 1 period (1 month for a Month view, 1 week for a Week view, etc.). To print more than 1 period, the desired Print Range must be selected - either in File | Print or in File | Print Wizard. The quickest way to select the desired Print Range is to click on 'File' then select 'Print'. When the 'Print' window opens, select the 'Start Date', then set the desired number of 'Periods'. The 'End Date' should then be automatically set to the correct end date. ********** The print process which is required for the '2 Pages' formats can be a bit confusing. Luckily, however, there are several workable options. Following are recommended options for making the process as simple as possible: 1. Use a different program for creating and printing the Facing Pictures and Cover Page: Some users prefer to create and print a 1 Page layout in Calendar Creator. Then, after all Calendars are printed on one side of the paper, they will use a different program to create and print both the Facing Pictures and the Cover Page on the other side of the paper. 2. Manual Duplex: A manual duplex can be performed - to print the Cover Page and the Calendars on one side of the paper then manually reinsert the paper to print the Facing Pictures on the other side of the paper. The process is easiest when a top-feed printer is used - because, after one side of the paper is printed, all that is necessary is to rotate the stack of paper 180º, then flip the stack over before putting it back into the paper feed. With some printers, it is also necessary to reverse the order of the printed sheets before putting the stack of paper back into the paper feed. So, it is always a good idea to experiment with only a few months at a time until it can be determined exactly how the process must be performed with the selected printer. Before performing a manual duplex, BOTH the Cover Page option AND the 'Print on both sides of page' option MUST be selected in either File > Page Setup or File > Print Wizard. When the project is printed, Calendar Creator will create a print job which contains only the Cover Page and the Calendars. After the Cover Page and Calendars have been printed on one side of the paper, and the paper has been put back into the paper feed, clicking on 'OK' on the 'First Side Printing Complete' window will cause Calendar Creator to create a print job which contains only the Facing Pictures. 3. Automatic Duplex: When a duplex printer is available, an automatic duplex can be performed - to allow the printer to automatically print both sides of the paper. Before performing an automatic duplex, it is VERY IMPORTANT to keep in mind that 1) The Auto duplexing option MUST be selected in the duplex printer's Properties, 2) the Cover Page option MUST be selected in either File > Page Setup or File > Print Wizard and 2) the 'Print on both sides of page' option MUST NOT be selected in either Page Setup or Print Wizard. It is also important to keep in mind that Calendar Creator is not compatible with many multi-function (all-in-one) and postscript printers. So, not all duplex printers will be able to perform an automatic duplex with a Calendar Creator '2 Pages' layout. When that happens, it should be possible to perform an automatic duplex in Adobe Reader after saving the '2 Pages' layout to PDF, as described below. 4. Save as PDF: The first point that should be noted about saving Calendar Creator projects as PDF is that those *.pdf files will be saved with embedded fonts. So, there will be no loss of quality. When automatic duplexing is desired, the Cover Page option MUST BE selected and the 'Print on both sides of page' option MUST NOT be selected in either File > Page Setup or File > Print Wizard. Calendar Creator will then create one single *.pdf file - which will include the Cover Page, the Facing Pictures and the Calendars - beginning with the Cover Page, then alternating with the Facing Pictures and the Calendars. When manual duplexing is desired, BOTH the Cover Page option AND the 'Print on both sides of page' option MUST BE selected in either File > Page Setup or File > Print Wizard. Calendar Creator will then create 2 *.pdf files. One file will contain the Facing Pictures. The other file will contain the Cover Page and the Calendars. NOTE: Before attempting to create a *.pdf file with any version of Calendar Creator, it is very important to keep the following points in mind: a. The Calendar Creator Express which is bundled with some versions of Print Shop does not offer a 'Save as PDF' option. b. Since the PDF driver which is installed with all stand-alone versions of Calendar Creator except Calendar Creator 12.1 is not compatible with 64-bit Operating Systems, it is not possible to use the 'Save as PDF' option with any stand-alone version of Calendar Creator on any 64-bit Operating System. When Calendar Creator 12.1 is installed on a 64-bit Operating System - with no other versions of either Print Shop or PrintMaster being installed - the 'Save as PDF' option works perfectly. However, since all versions of Print Shop & all versions of PrintMaster install a different version of the Broderbund PDF Creator than is installed with Calendar Creator 12.1, if any version of Print Shop or PrintMaster is installed after Calendar Creator 12.1 is installed, the Broderbund PDF Creator for Print Shop or PrintMaster will overwrite the Broderbund PDF Creator which was originally installed with Calendar Creator 12.1. When that happens, the 'Save as PDF' option in Calendar Creator 12.1 will not work. c. The recommended workaround for both the stand-alone versions of Calendar Creator and Calendar Creator Express is to install an alternate PDF driver, then use that PDF driver to 'Print to PDF', as is described in the FAQ below Save as PDF vs File | Print to PDF d. Since Calendar Creator Express will print only to the default printer, it is necessary to set the alternate PDF driver as the default printer BEFORE starting Calendar Creator Express in Print Shop.
